O' Cap'n My Cap'n!
As I already said once (which has since been secretly deleted without cause), Pollyjock, Lonewolf-25, Joshuahiltbrun - you are addressing a fictional cartoon character. Don't be foolish...it does not exist in the real world...it will never see your comments, and it can never reply. x

My...I really can't believe like people are still mistaking the real Balto to be a wolfdog. None of the theories to him being part wolf make sense. So yeah, referring further down to the bottom I am DEFINITELY with Natti. Mushers did NOT want wolf hybrids on their team, yep, they'd just let their prize champion dogs out to go and breed with some wild wolf and not give a care in the world... Nope, so not true.

And, if it's a very bad idea to have a purebred dog of any breed on your team, then he could be crossed with another dog of a different breed, doesn't that give a solution? Then he's NOT purebred.

But, personally, I definitely think he is 100% Siberian Husky, check JC's website and READ.

Pollyjock -- First, don't you use so many of the emoicons. Use one. To use more is spamming, which is against the rules.

Second, Universal will not make another Balto 4. That's what fanfiction is for.

i myself am having finding info on the internet about wolfdog hybrids on the internet, but however i don't trust everything i see on the internet (and by the way most info supporting balto being pure bred if found, all on internet) based on my lessons in biology i would stop here BUT, if any of you have read gary paulsens book winterdance, fine madness of running the idiorad, he stated that 2-3 of his dogs were as he said cannadian trapper dog that were huskies with a BIT OF WOLF BLOOD IN THEM, and to NattiKay if you read his book get this one of his team while in minnesota bred with a coyote, the dogs were not only in kennels, when they were out and when the driver stopped it gave a lone wolf or coyote a chance to breed. im not saying balto was half wolf but i belive maybe 14% wolf, like his gramps or great gramps was a wolf. any more comments?
i do love a debate like this.
P.S. im not sure if the sled dog then were anything like the canadian trapper dog from Mr. paulsens book but if so these dog were NOT pets like you think, as he said these dog sleep eat what ever you give them (maybe even a few skunks if you are foolish enough to race at night) and keep running as long as there as there is a horizon to run to. THEY DO NOT LIKE TO BE PET!
P.P.S. the bolded words were to get attention i was not yelling.

Maybe--MAYBE--he was crossed with another dog breed, Wolfdog-outcast, but I HIGHLY doubt that he had any wolf in him. He lived in the early 1900s, remember, and those people weren't uber-find of wolves, nor did they breed their dogs with them. Even if they wanted to, for some bizarre reason, they couldn't because wolves are wild animals--NOT pets. And unlike in fiction, the dogs weren't always just wandering out to breed with wolves, they stayed with the humans; when they wren't working, they were kept in kennels.

Not to mention that if even if they could get out, the wolves probably wouldn't mate with the dogs. In real wolf packs, ONLY the alpha pair mates, and dogs are not part of the alpha pair.

Yyyyeah. The real Balto was definitely NOT part wolf.

ok general dog sledding 101; it is a very very very VERY bad idea to have a purebred of any kind on your team. if the animal is a purebred chances are there may be inbreeding going on thus making the animal not as fit as a hybrid dog; anyone who has taken biology should know this; so with this knowing that humans decided close to a hundred years ago that hybrid dogs are better, what are the chances that he let a pure bred be his team leader in an important race... so yeah i don't think the real balto was a pure bred, in fact he may have some wolf blood in him, 25%-14% is what musher like to see in their dogs.

Chances are practically astronomical that you'll either end up in Nome (I've been there...it's neither cheap to get to, nor easy to live in unless you're prepared to give up a LOT of the life luxuries most people take for granted...and unless you're willing to pay higher prices for groceries, gas, food, etc.) or end up having a wolf dog hybrid with a personality and easy-going nature anything even remotely like the fictional version of Balto.

QFCgriffin#1fan: Yeah, most of us did. They made him part wolf for the story. Most heros in movies or books are some kind of outcast or someone who is made fun of or something, and then at the end they become the hero. They made him part wolf so he would be an outcast, like most of the other heros in other stories. Just hike how they added the bad guy, Steele, his group of followers, Star, Kaltag and Nikki, the love interest, Jenna, the journey or adventure, him finding the missing team instead of just being a part of it.

Balto is an amazing husky, and all the dogs who took part in the relay are heroes. You're a true American, Balto.
