She grew up in Nome not knowing her parents. She and her sibs were left in a basket on someone's doorstep, so the occupant of the building took them in. After a few weeks they were put out for adoption, and she was adopted by a young boy. That night, she had a dream in which she saw a wolf kindly smiling at her. She quickly forgot it the next day. A year passes before she has the same dream again. She still did not understand what it meant. A few months later. she runs away and ends up in the forest. She ends up taking a quest to find the meaning of her dream. Along the way, she had the annoyance of bumping into Niju, whom she found annoying, so she ran away from there and continued. Several times afterward, over the next few days, she sees a white wolf sitting and watching her. For no apparent reason, the dream is suddenly remembered. A few months later, with still no answer, she heads back to Nome and runs into a bear, which then attacks. A wolf in the area heard her screaming and came to investigate. When the wolf saw a dog being attacked by a bear and bleeding profusely, he proceeded to fight the bear and ended up with a few scars himself, but they were nothing compared to Kate's wounds. After the bear was long gone, he licked her wounds and took care of her for weeks, and never left her side, in case she passed. Almost miraculously, she pulled through and fully recovered. During those few weeks, she fell in love with this wolf. After she was recovered, they became mates and eventually had pups. She loves him more than anything, and could do anything for him.
