Varadan is a fox, the second mate of Aleu. His background story remained mostly hidden until "The Fox and the Wolf", when it was revealed that, after his siblings were killed by a hunter, he was taken in by a wolf pack, and became a follower of Aniu. He was later captured by Aparie, and was forced into learning to use aura, which he now does only occasionally.

After escaping from Aparie, he met up with Aleu and Shadow, and traveled with them on their journey to New York. After Shadow died, he became Aleu's mate, and pledged his life to her. After she died, he and the ressurected Shadow helped to raise Aleu's daughter, Jenna, which they continue to do until the end of "In Memoriam," when Varadan dies of old age in his sleep.

Varadan is a mysterious fox. He is shown to do things that cause other characters to be completely blown away. He has met several individuals in the past whom he influenced by his actions. Unlike most other foxes, Varadan is completely selfless and almost always tells the truth. He always looks out for those he loves--especially Aleu and Shadow. Near the end of his life, he became a quiet person, staying to himself and thinking about the past years of his life.

Age: Estimated at four years old in "Across Alaska" debut.
