Balto 2: Wolf Quest Video Game

Just as the titles says, a project for a sequel to Balto: The Video Game!

Red XIII :

Seeing that my previous project in programming a Balto video game had been a major success and becoming somewhat public, I have been inspired recently to open the old program, blow off some dust and get to work on a sequel: Balto 2: Wolf Quest.

Just like the first game, though I'm anticipating drastic changes to the game play. Much bigger levels, much more puzzles to traverse, and perhaps a 'Navi' system [e.g. The Legend of Zelda, if you ever get stuck, always consult your trusty fairy.] I'm thinking somewhere around the lines of having a Muru follow you around, give you headers, pointers, and perhaps secret passageways that will unlock potential cheat codes and/or shortcuts.

The HUD (Heads up display) system will be featured in this game aswell, same with the health + stacking buff, and damage will scale depending on the level of difficulty I have set. I'll most likely add a more RPG feel to the game, throw in the storyline from the Balto 2 movie, as well as a few phrases that were featured in the film.

The game will revolve around Aleu, in her epic journey of trying to find out who she really is. I'm planning a lot for this game, when the other was a practice run of new scripts and codings I had, as well as the frustration of wanting to pull out my hair for missplacing a single symbol to mess the whole system up. I feel like this project will prove a challenge to me, as well as anyone who helps out - since I'm hoping I'd get a lot of help with this.

Starting from scratch: I have nothing but the program, as well as a few scripts/timelines, but you don't need to know that. What you do need to know, is what I am going to be asking for this project. . .

Sprites are pixelated drawings, very tiny in detail, so if you intend on sending some sprites, please make sure they are small in size, unless of course they are objects/backgrounds or scenery ledges. I'm working with numbers. . .constantly, and if a number doesn't fit, everything will be screwey. Make sure, to read through the dimensions of what you are trying to make. If I ask for 32 x 32, and it isn't? It'll mess with the scripting, even by a single number.

What I need:

Aleu Sprite: This sprite will be the most challenging, if you are interested in drawing an Aleu sprite, I need. .  A left walk cycle, a right walk cycle, a left jump, a right jump, an idle left image, and an idle right image. The sprite would be lovely if it's height was below 50 pixels, and length no more than 80. I'll work with the dimensions you provide. Also, it would be nice if the cycles are fluid, and not glitchy. (See: Balto: The Video Game page for an example.)

(Optional) Muru Sprite: Another challenging sprite, need a left/right walk cycle, left/right idle, left/right jump. This feature is still in the thought, I have no idea if I'll be able to program Muru following your every movement, but if I manage it, it would be an accomplishment. (Do keep in mind, small pixels, tiny enough to resemble a mouse.)

Totem Sprites: These are still iffy at the moment. I'm planning on using the totems for a formidible encounter (boss' [ Such as: Fox, Bear, Wolverine, Caribou, etc.]) I'll update when I've planned the desired dimensions.

Ground Sprites: The sprites you walk along. I'm going to need a grassy type ground sprite 32 x 32, and dirt type, and maybe a dim cave ground type.  Make sure it looks nice if tiled against eachother!

Title Screen & Tutorial Screen: Same as the first, I'm going to need a title screen aswell as a tutorial screen. W:640 x H: 480. Include the buttons 'Start,' 'Info,' and 'Controls.' Aswell as 'Balto 2: Wolf Quest' Make the buttons boxy. It'll be difficult trying to script the start command into a funky shaped start button. Preferably rectangle. (Don't forget to include the copyright to Universal Studios!)

The screens should have the buttons below.

Title Screen:

Start button

Controls button

Info button

Tutorial Screen:

Start button.

Backgrounds: I could use as many as any of you can come up with. A light forest, mountainous terrain, to the darkness of a cave, Aleu will be there. 640 x 480 (W x H ) Make sure the background looks nice if it's tiled! (Try to think of the backdrops in the movie!)

Music: Music from Balto 2: Wolf Quest would suffice.

Tree Sprites Small/large: I will be needing these, sadly I can't list the dimensions until I have the Aleu sprite.

The 'Need' list will be updated on a regular basis, it's all I can think of at the moment.

What I have: Just a few things I have already.

 Dirt ledge.

 Basic grass

 Block

 Spikes

I have many others, such as signs, hills, large blocks, lengthy blocks, etc. Above are only examples of how any pixel art submitted should look like.

Near the end, credits will go out to everyone who helped in-game as well as upon posting. The more that help, the faster I can work.

"Thank you"

@VollendJatara-Jenny: I was unable to test out the animation embedded in the second text. Try sending it to the project page or to myself as a PM. Also the Aleu sprite is nearly finished but if yours proves to be better, it will have priority over the default.

@AtomicUno: I apologize but it takes a fair amount of time to create a video game from scratch. I'm unaware of how long the first game took, but the more help I get, the faster it will be programmed.

Thank you for your patience.

I made an Aleu cursor that could provide some inspiration. Though it was a variant based on another cursor. ^^; Make it in AniFX. -> http://vollendjatara-jenny.dev [...] ndjatara-jenny%2F27733509&qo=2

The cursor I used as a model is in this desktop theme -> http://www.ezskins.com/wolf-n-pup-by-d&b.php?173380+Desktop%20Themes

You guys are welcome to use the colors (if you can) if you like. I must admit I'm kinda still quite a noob to animation. XD Though this cursor was years ago. Plus the .gif / .ani file is 32 X 32... I think. (it loops as a cursor but I couldn't figure out how to get the gif preview to loop at the time. XD Benton Movie gif is recommended for that sort of thing I guess)

But if someone already has her taken care of, that's fine... might see about providing a concept art for Muru... unless someone beats me too it.

BTW great job on the first one guys! Can't quite get past level five yet though. XD

I look forward to this game. :D

Normally you don't see a title theme with lyrics . . . unless you are confusing it with an entire intro animation with an opening them song.

However you can always submit a title theme without the lyrics. It would be nice to have a pleasant intro music to pull the consumer into the game before it starts.

No weapon can sever the soul from me
Hurray, I can help by providing music!! :D

Could I possibly try making my own title theme with lyrics? If not that's alright.

I have most of the soundtrack :)
