Still Loved

A lot of people here seem to assume that Steele left town/ran away after Balto returned with the medicine and Steele was rejected by the dogs. I don't think so, though, because though the dogs may dislike him now, the humans have no reason to, and they're the ones that run the town. I think Steele would stay. Whether or not he remains a racer, I'm not sure, but I like to think he still has a life with an owner or two where he can still feel loved.

Messy digital picture is messy, but whatever.

I think all dogs do that sometimes if they can; mine sure does, especially when I have food.

I have a dog who does the same thing. That is, she puts her head on your lap and look's... adorable! I love this!

i agree! i personally like steele. in the storyboards there was a deleted scene where hi collar got taken away! but i think it's a better ending for him than getting ditched in the boiler room

This looks like something an old friend of mine would really like.

As JC pointed out, the obvious reluctance of the other dogs to work with him would probably leave him useless as a sled dog after the events in the movie. So even if the humans had no idea what he'd done (and it stands to reason that they would be oblivious), they'd have little use for a dog no other dog would work with.

That said, this does open up some interesting ideas. I'll have to break off from my usual canon entirely to make use of them, but I think it would be worth it to explore new ground.

Well, that is an open question, isn't it? I don't think Steele left either. I also don't think the humans had any notion of Steele's treachery. I mean, how could they?

He may still have been used as a team leader in some capacity. Though perhaps with a different team. A few mushers back then had a large enough selection of dogs that they could actually assemble more than one team...though it was not common place. There was still the expense involved.

I do believe, however, that Steele probably never again led the team he fronted during the movie. Now, that's just a personal view. There's no proof of that either. It's all speculation anyway. While it could make for an interesting fan fiction (or even fan art or image), the situation of Steele fronting that team subsequent to the events in the first Balto movie would be tense and drama-laden to say the least. It has at least been established that Steele's treachery in that movie created a nascent hatred and ostracizing of him by the dogs of the town...and maybe dogs from outside of Nome if word spread among them. He'd be "persona non grata" among the dogs.

All the same, he was still in the prime of his life in the first movie. Who knows what may have become of him? Anyway it's a wonderful piece of art, Natti! As usual! :icon303:
