Sleepy Steele Sculpture

Well, here's my very first clay sculpture of a dog. Made using wool, FIMO, Superglue, acrylic paints, watercolour Paints and pastels.

Very nice. :) It makes me want to take up sculpture myself. You're right, too; an underlying frame does make the process easier and the finished product more durable. I've read some about making sculptures for museums and the like (replicas of dinosaurs, taxidermy, that type of thing), and most people in the business do that to some extent as near as I can tell.

Thanks! Yeah, that's why I prefer needle felting to sculpting, lol. Clay can be pretty hard to work with, due to delicate areas snapping off (actually, both Steele's front paws and tail broke off in the drying process!), but the results are usually quite rewarding! I heard that making a wire armature wrapped in silver foil (to put under the clay) helps prevent bits from breaking.

M-awesome
This is cute! I made a sculpture of Balto awhile back with some air-dry clay. His ear broke off on one side though.
