Pose practice

People on DeviantART don't give me the criticism I need to improve, so, I'm asking for advice here instead

I've really needed to work on my canine drawings, since I struggle with them more than lions because of their more slimmer bodies & legs

Is there any advice to be given for this one?

Kirinoha- Oh, no! It's no bother, and thanks ^^ I don't have many tools to work with without messing my work up, so I try to keep it clean. And I am trying to thin out the muzzles on my canines, and I'll be sure to study coyotes more (they're basically my neighbors where I live)

coyote's heads are much narrower than wolves or huskies, or any dog. their ears are also enormous too lmao

and, i hate to repeat what everybody else here's said, but the muzzle is way too thick. it looks more like a wild feline's muzzle (say a tiger or a lion) if anything. no offense though, i like your coloring style. :0

Mighty- Right, sorry I didn't make it clear, but I do thank you for providing links and advice, I'll be sure to do that when redrawing her, or when I'm drawing an actual husky or wolf

Just as some word of advice, you should be more specific when you're asking for constructive criticism (it's hard to help when you don't know what you're working with). You only mentioned that you struggle with "canines", which could be anything that falls into the canidae category. And considering how popular Huskies and wolves are here, I assumed this was a Husky.

Since there is such a vast difference between dogs and coyotes, I would suggest looking up pictures of them and compare them to your drawing.

Mighty- This isn't a husky, she's suppse to be a coyote, as for her left shoulder, the pose I was trying to achieve was her arm being raised upward (which is why the shoulder is placed for high up and why the neck is short, I might lower it in a redrawn, however, I wasn't happy with it at all in drafts

I'll look into the links later when I have time

RoCker- I do admit I should've added more fur to the chest, maybe once I've implemented the changes in a redrawn, I'll add it then, but for now I'm out of the house at school so I'll probably redraw it when I'm home

TB- Yeah, I wasn't happy with how it turned out, I'll be sure to try and fix it later

Let's see here.

The Head

-The muzzle of this dog is a bit wide and tall, making it look more like a lion. Assuming, since you mentioned that this is a canine, that this is a Husky. Huskies have long and narrow muzzles.

-It's more of a question of style, but I think adding too much shaggy fur on a non-shaggy breed can ruin a drawing. It isn't bad in this case, but I think the fur, if we're indeed dealing with a Husky, is a bit long. There also shouldn't long strands of fur coming off of the cheek area (the same can be said for the ears).

*HINT* The tufts of fur on a Husky (even on other dogs and wolves) are usually even with the jaw line.

-The height of the head here seems a bit too short since the eyes are nearly sitting on top of the head (note the distance between the ears and the eyes).

The Body

-The body, as a whole, seems scrunched, thin and curvy.
http://previews.123rf.com/imag [...] ackground-Stock-Photo-wolf.jpg

-The neck is too short and thin. Note, in the picture linked above, there's a good distance between the jaw and where the chest begins.

-The shoulders should be down by the chest more, as these looks more like human shoulders position-wise. The left shoulder (in general) also shouldn't be that pronounced. http://www.bestfreejpg.com/wp- [...] /09/siberian_husky_in_snow.jpg

-The back legs seem much too large, especially the far left one. And actually, you won't see the other leg (from this view) when they're sitting.

I think the muzzle should be thinnier and head looks a bit too large (but maybe it's just because of the wide muzzle).

I think the body's pretty good, maybe a little more fur on the chest. The tail is pretty spot on. The only thing I would recommend would be to work on muzzles/snouts. Maybe make them a little longer and slimmer. Keep up the good work c:
