Character Traits

Personality:

On the surface, if you catch Corvin in the woods on a regular old day, this buck is apologetic and quiet. He is quite insecure and reserved, and extremely socially awkward – he spent the majority of his life alone, without any social interaction. He struggles with this. He doesn’t like to talk and often sinks into the background of a crowd, and is completely confused and almost frustrated by Mercutio’s constant mentoring in the ways of herd life, not understanding how Mercutio can possibly stand being around him – he admires Mercutio’s status among the herd deeply, and is completely smitten by his sister, Soleil. It borders on an obsession. In their relationship, he tends to lean toward possessiveness, failing to see error in his colder side and being forced to learn how to truly live from the siblings he simply can’t comprehend. How they could not fear him escapes Corvin, and he can’t really grasp the concept of loyalty, even though he demonstrates extreme loyalty to Soleil. He doesn’t like talking and tends to avoid deer as much as possible, but this persona is not completely without blame – even under normal circumstances, Corvin can air on the side of coldness, and craves revenge. He doesn’t believe that revenge is best served cold: It should be frozen. Like a wound, left to fester and become infected, Corvin’s hate is like a deep scar. He doesn’t show this unless confronted, though, and shows deep remorse for things he won’t speak of. An odd thing about Corvin is his sheer inability to look another creature in the eye.

Just shallow below his mostly-docile exterior, something lurks inside him. A monster lays just below his surface, a beast like no other – a creature that Corvin fears. It is himself, yet it is not – with the power to take him over in a moment, there is a part of Corvin which screams for the murder of all who fit even the slightest resemblance to the beast which murdered his mother and attempted his murder as well. It screams for the death of Soleil, of Mercutio, of all their friends… all who have shown him kindness. A psychotic murderer, who takes joy in pain – a masochist. This monster is without redemption, something Corvin cannot control – something that makes him think he deserves to leave the world.

Likes:

Mercutio, Soleil, being alone.

Dislikes:

Himself, murder, Mercutio’s constant spoiling for playfights, Mercutio’s more boisterous friends, seeing Soleil with other bucks… when Soleil is angry at him

Fears:

Himself

Strengths:

Surprisingly powerful, very stealthy

Weaknesses:

Bloodlust, controlling

Other

Goals:

The death of the buck who killed his mother, learn to control himself, be able to walk among the herd someday

History:

Corvin’s mother carried him far past term. He was born late in the summer, around the same time Noir gave birth to her twins, Mercutio and Soleil.

At first, all was well in Corvin’s life. He was very small, and tended toward being very introverted, but his life wasn’t bad.

However, one day marked something very interesting in the fawn’s life. A small posse of young bucks had targeted Corvin, and were tossing him about up until another fawn, larger than him, pale, with bright eyes and his own little group approached, calling the others off and claiming Corvin was “okay in his books,” and immediately took a nastier note when he told them he’d pound them if they messed with Corvin anymore. They left pretty quickly.

Even then, Corvin didn’t understand this gesture of kindness. He’d never met the fawn before, but he still seemed amiable and very nice.

Corvin left back for home with his mother, and didn’t meet the other fawn again.

Things stayed fairly uneventful until fall came about. This was when Corvin’s life would change forever.

Late one night, when Corvin had gotten thirsty, his mother took him out to the stream. A buck appeared, and immediately showed interest in Corvin’s mother. She obviously loathed the gesture, making it clear she had no intention in taking a mate this year – she had a fawn still on her.

He would not take no for an answer.

After a good deal of attempting to convince the doe otherwise, he snapped and attacked Corvin before turning on the doe herself – both were left dead in the stream.

Or so he thought.

Months later, mysterious deaths began occurring – many puncture wounds from antlers, should it be fall, as well as clear marks where teeth had ripped off flesh from the victims. No one knew who was responsible.

As it would be, Corvin was the perpetrator.

This wasn’t discovered until Soleil began uncovering the bodies and one evening, Death led the doe straight to the buck – standing over his victim, shaking, crying.

It took him several long moments to realize the doe stood there, in which he quickly told her she was in danger to be around him and he took off.

Things didn’t get better for Corvin. He met Soleil a few more times before he eventually took the initiative to speak to her. When he did, he found something amazing.

Love.

Corvin soon was absolutely taken by the doe, and met with her in a designated clearing many times, swearing he’d never follow her to her den. One morning, Corvin had gone out for a walk when he met two bucks – both fairly muscular, and larger than him. They seemed to be spoiling for a fight, as most are, and Corvin couldn’t really comprehend their joking.

He’d never encountered it before.

After several moments, a third buck approached – he called the other two off, telling them “he’s good with me.” He then shoved them both good-naturedly, letting them know that he’d pound them next time.

The buck then introduced himself as Mercutio – this was Soleil’s brother. Before long, Mercutio had somehow managed to get the reclusive buck to come with him, in which time he was introduced to other deer and met up with Soleil again. He didn’t bother to act as if he knew her, but couldn’t understand what Mercutio was doing.

As time went on, Mercutio became increasingly fond of Corvin, determined to get him to come out of his shell.

RTB: In love with Faline's granddaughter

And as it was, Corvin found himself… happy.

I can't say much about Corvin I haven't already said. I like him just as much as I did before. He's a wonderful character. One that I actually wouldn't like to come across that often if I was a deer, but an amazing one nontheless.
