The petition can be found here :

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/328925814

I believe it is enough self-explanatory. What are you waiting for? Sign!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(The following text is previous information)

Here we are, two years after the release of Balto 3.
I will sum up the things Universal have done for Balto during these two years. Warning, this will be very long :

.........NOTHING.
They haven't done anything : no sequel of course, no merchandise product, no re-release of the films in dvd, no dvd pack (apart exceptions)...

I'm becoming sick of this situation, because it can't be ANY worse than that. I predicted that they weren't going to do anything now, that they are going to forget it just like they did for An american tail. And that's exactly what is happening.

I just can't afford waiting. I WANT to do something to change this. The question is : what can we do?

I have thought of what would be the best solution to "revive" the Balto franchise : a Balto 1 special edition DVD.
Why? Because releasing a new dvd for Balto, in a good way (take the Disney special edition dvds as examples),
would please : the fans, the people who didn't get to know it, and the people who knew it and liked it but forgot about it since a long time. (and believe me, that's how Disney got most of their sales when they release special edition dvds)

To succeed, there should be :

- A good cover (Seriously, how can they imagine the Balto dvd selling well with such an horrible cover on it? It nearly makes the film look like a cheap 1€ dvd.)
- Good content (real extras such as deleted scenes, commentaries...)
- Widescreen format (most TVs sold now are widescreen, this is both the future and the original aspect ratio of the film)
- Improved picture quality (if possible)
- As much advertisement as possible...If they don't advertise it, then I know it would be useless except for fans, because it wouldn't sell. A franchise like Balto REALLY need some advertisement, but has a great potential.

I believe it will be very difficult to get something like this from Universal, especially because they have never made any good special edition dvd for their animated films. (I can only remember of one for Land before time which didn't contain special extras - but that was years ago)

But it's not impossible. I've seen less popular animated films getting better treatments than Balto, such as Ferngully and The last unicorn which got both good special edition dvds.

I know the best thing would be if we would know someone working in that Home video division. If we could speak DIRECTLY to someone there, we would be sure to get something...

Stupid question, but : what is your opinion on this? Should we start such a petition? Should we do something else? (eg : sending them letters regularly?)

I'm up for the petition. But what unlike what happend last time Universal thought we wanted more sequals, no we wanted other things, but were going to do better this time. Like you said Steet its worth another try. Ill try sending a E mail to chanel 1 news and see if they can advertise the Balto movies. ( Channel 1 news only views at schools.

I am up for it. After all, if we give up, then what does that give us? Nothing.
They'll forget about it, and all we will have is what we have now.

I'll sign it, and I'll try to help in anyway I could.

You said it some time ago, another petition would make them thing that we are an annoying fan group, so I don't think another petition would work

Well, only idiots don't change their opinion...Now that I've seen many cases for which the fans succeeded getting what they wanted by insisting a lot (for many different things : video games, TV series...) I think we should do the same. Staying quiet is not the solution.

At the very least, the petition will have one effect : to remind them of Balto.
Because I seriously think that now, they don't even think about it, and we could miss an opportunity.

I mean, yes we could annoy them (not with another petition, but if we would send them lots of letters for example) But since they aren't planning to do anything, what could be worse?

So, another solution would be to organize a letter campaign. I've seen this done many times in other fan communities. Sending them letters regularly, by many different people, to show them they have a big fan base.

Another thing to consider is that with Blue-Ray And HDDVD's coming out now It might be wise to see what format wins this war before We ask anything of Universal regarding Balto.

Absolutely not : these formats won't be widely used before at least 3 years, and much more for animated films. (if you consider that, for animated films, VHS cassettes were still selling more than DVDs even 5 years after the release of DVD...) Blue-Ray and HD Dvd may even not work at all. If you take the example of audio CDs, other better formats never succeeded to take its place...
