I went for five, movie speaks for itself really so I don't have much to add on why I picked Balto for 5. Although where it says "greatest movie ever" is where I disagree, I dont have favourite movies although if I could be bothered to think about a list I'm sure Balto would be top, or drawed without about 10 others

I rate it a 4. As an animated film, it is well above average and is indeed a classic. However, I feel that it simply does not have the makings of a five-star work of art. In my view, 'best animated film' is a little much, because for me that would be saying that Balto surpasses films like 'Bambi' or 'The Secret of NIMH' - films that are technically, historically or aesthetically significant in the animation genre. Balto is a lovely film, but it isn't a movie-making milestone.

I love the Balto trilogy, but not as much as Pixar films/most 2D Disney classics like Toy Story, Bambi, Finding Nemo, The Lion King, or Aladdin. (I'm not saying that you would or wouldn't consider those better than Balto, I'm just list a few movies that I prefer) My rating for all three films? 90% at the minimum, but less than 95%.

I vote 4 because it does lack some qualities.
Quality: Seriously, the art was good, but the film quality was crummy, even if it was released on VHS. I've tried multiple times to enhance color and picture quality, but descreening and correct filter levels was all I could do. A release of Blu-ray would never hurt but then again that will never happen as stated from past conversations. Would have been a definite 5 if I didn't have to work so hard to get semi-improved quality to look decent in 1080p.
Length: Ack! Come on Amblin, you could've made the movie longer. Look at Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (Spirited Away) and Mononoke Hime, they both run near 1:50:00 and have great qualities like Balto.
...and so forth. A few glitches here and there that were not described, but they're not really worth describing.
::Score Breakdown:: Balto: 4 Balto II: Wolf Quest - 2 Balto III: Wings of Change - 1

4 out of 5
This is an overall great movie. I didn't give it a five because I usually reserve that for the really epic stuff, and there were a couple points that could have been done a little better (eg. the sound effects when Kaltag bonks Star near the beginning of the movie were a little cheesy). But it's faults were few and far between, resulting in a very fun and satisfying movie experience. The white wolf scene was the one that stuck out my head the most from when I first saw it, and to this day, it still sends a little shiver up my spine.
It's definitely in my favorite movies list.
