I'm having difficulty determining what kind of hat Rosie was wearing in Balto. The best I have been able to determine is that it is a Russian ushanka, but as I watch the movie, the part which can cover her ears seems to be all one piece that wraps around the back of the head. That does not fit the design of an ushanka.



Does anyone know what it is?

I took what you gave me and did some digging. It seems to me that trooper hats are the same thing as ushankas. They have ear flaps, but they aren't continuous around the back. The ear covering on Rosie's hat is one large flap.
