History:

Kachina was born into a Hopi tribe, whose chief was her father. She grew up happily, prosperingly, loved. At twenty four she was wed to a warrior's son, Enapay. Enapay was her father's closest companion's son. The two were very close. At twenty seven years of age, Kachina gave birth to their daughter, Tiponi, meaning "child of importance". Tiponi died only a couple weeks after birth. Kachina and Enapay had been taking a trip around the boundaries of the tribe when a bear had appeared and ambushed them. Kachina had been tackled and knocked senseless. She awoke without Tiponi.

Enapay and Kachina discovered only the cloth Tiponi had been wrapped in at the time of the attack. Devestated, Enapay divorced Kachina and left the tribe. Kachina left the tribe as well, alone and depressed. She soon found herself at a cliff above a waterfall, near the site of the attack, only a few days after her departure from her Hopi tribe. It was dark, and she knew everybody was asleep. Kachina attempted to jump off the cliff, but immediately knew that it wasn't the right thing to do. She tried to stop herself. Kachina slipped and fell.

Kachina found herself waking up on the bank as a bear. Looking into the river, she realized that she looked exactly like the bear that had murdered her daughter.

A search party had been sent out from her tribe. Enapay had returned and told everyone of the bear's coloration and the last place where he saw it, which was wandering down the bank. Kachina was found by her tribe. She tried to reason with them, but they chased her, and she lost them in a ditch under a fallen tree log. Kachina revealed herself and checked to see if her search party had gone, then turned tail and ran in a random direction, confused, lost and scared.

She collided into another bear during a split second of unalertness, sending them both flying and plummeting down a hill. The bear Kachina had met was a male. He challenged her, easily overpowering her. Kachina whined and begged for her life, drabbling on about how miserable she was, making the bear step back in confusion and ask who she was.

Kachina discovered that this bear's name was Koda, a young adult in his first few weeks of leaving his old home. She dismissed him and sulked away, only to be tailed by Koda.

He tagged along with her despite her protests. The two bonded in time, and soon enough, fell in love. It had been several months before Koda wished for cubs. Kachina refused. When Koda asked why, she lashed out at him violently, scarring him across his nose. Kachina ran away.

Koda found her and begged her to tell him why she was so upset. Kachina revealed the tragedy, and was comforted by Koda. He shared with her the death of his mother in exchange.

A few days later, Kachina and Koda were in the river fishing for salmon when Kachina heard something. Near the bank of the river, Enapay was sneaking up, spear in hand. Kachina was overcome with waves of confusion and excitement. She tried to approach Enapay, only resulting in him leaping into the shallow river and trying to rush her. Koda knocked him down and forced Kachina to run.

They were chased for what seemed like miles, only to find themselves at the site of Tiponi's disappearance. Kachina and Enapay shared a moment of realization before Enapay dropped his spear and hugged her. He was introduced to Koda, and left to tell the tribe Kachina was well.

Koda and Kachina had one female cub, whom Kachina named Tiponi, in honor of her lost child.
