Persona:

Nanuk is motherly and kind, she is very sassy however and tends to run from males, she is calm yet very playful and is very good with cubs. She has a soft heart even if she acts tough and will take in any lost or orphaned cub until he or she gets old enough to live on it’s own. She is a smart-aleck when it comes to males and does not participate in mating season. She is fiercely protective and is a vicious opponent. Nanuk will do what she must to give her cub (s) a good life.

History:

Nanuk is not originally from the same land Koda and Kenai were from, but after the ice began to melt away, she found where she had lived before was far to warm for her so she set out to find a new more suitable home. On her travels she met a young little bear crying besides a cold deceased bear. Both the cub and the dead bear were odd looking she had never seen bears like them before. Nanuk having lost her cubs to a harsh blizzard during the middle of the Ice Age, felt compassion for the little cub and her motherly instincts arose. She calmed the cub down and asked him his name, He said his name was Sanno, and that the other bear was his mother Saiba. He said he was crying because his mother was sick and had been sleeping for a long time when it wasn’t time for hybernation. Nanuk sorrowfully told the cub what was really wrong with his mother, and that now she was his gaurdian angel. Nanuk let Sanno cry on her for hours until the cub had fallen asleep, she tossed him gently on her back and began to move on in her travels she had to find food and a safe place to sleep for both her and her new cub. When sanno awoke he stuck to Nanuk like glue, and asked if she would be his new mother. Nanuk ecepted and from then on the two were inseparable, Nanuk was now a momma bear once more.

Nanuk and Sanno began to notice that the land was getting much icier on there travels, Nanuk being a bear build for cold weather found this very pleasant, however Sanno wasn’t adjusting well. Nanuk encouraged him that he was still just a cub but would soon devleope the fur he needed to survive in this kind of weather. In this Icy land Sanno spotted a small ball of white fluff in the distance, it was laughing and sliding off of a ice slope. Sanno ran off to the ball of fluff causing Nanuk to follow. They met the white ball of fluff it was an little white bear cub, she happily smiled at the two and said her name was Nuada, and that she was a polar bear. Nanuk warned Nuada that it was not safe to be so far away from her mother. To this Nuada sighed and became very sad, she said she couldn’t find her mother, that one night she woke up and she was gone. Sanno told Nuada that Nanuk could be her mother until they found Her real mom. Nuada was grateful for this and joined the two on their travels.

The Three bears traveled all across the icy lands but did not find Nuada’s mother, Nanuk also began to notice that Sanno was becoming quite ill from the cold weather, she explained to Nuada that they had to find better land to live in were both ice bears and Regular bears would survive. Nuada had excepted that her mother was probably never going to return, but she was happy with Nanuk so it didn’t matter anymore although she would always miss her real mom. So the three set out again. Within a year they came to land that was both green, rocky, snowy and Icy. It had rivers, lakes, and ponds, and plenty of bears in the area. It wasn’t to warm or to cold and all three of them could live here in comfort. However it was more dangerous for Nuada and Sanno, because of the number of bears in the area and the number of other animals…plus these strange new ugly animals whom walked on their hind legs all the time.

Nanuk, Sanno, and Nuada had settled into their new home within a few months. Sanno and Nuada had been playing out by the river and it was the start of winter, the river had begun to ice over in parts were the water wasn’t flowing as strong, there they met a Cub named Koda He said he and his brother were playing hide and seek and that he wanted to win. So Sanno and Nuada decided to Help Koda hide, they ran deep into the forest and hide him well. Nanuk realized that Sanno and Nuada had been missing for quite some time and started to get restless, she went out to the river to look for them and saw that they were gone. While looking around the river, she saw a very frantic grizzly bear running towards the river, Nanuk’s instinct was to fight and to roar in attempts to scare him away, but the look on his face, he was scarred, behind him was a female grizzle whom looked equally as worried. They stomped in front of Nanuk and asked her if she had seen a little brown cub around. Nanuk said she had not and asked them is they had seen a dark brown cub and a white one, their answer was the same, Nanuk asked the bear couple why they were so scarred. The female explained that there were a lot of tribesman/hunters in the area and that it wasn’t safe to be out of the den. At this Nanuk became frantic as well but she didn’t show it on the outside. She worked out a deal with the couple if they helped her find her cubs she’d help them find theirs. The two agreed and said their names were Kenai and Nita. The three searched for hours but could not find the cubs, nanuk en raged with frustration stood on her hind legs and let out a terrible roar, Kenai and Nita tried to tell her to stop or they would be found, but this is what Nanuk wanted. There was a russle in the bushes, Nanuk, Nita, and Kenai all got ready for a fight and spears. A single man walked out of the brushes holding Koda and Sanno while Nuada rested on his head. Kenai and Nita seemed happy to see this man and ran to great him. Nanuk stood in shock, how did they know him? Why was he not trying to hurt them? And what’s more why could she understand him when he talked. Kenai and Nita explained all of these things and said the mans name was Denahi and that he was Kenai’s brother, Kenai said he would explain the full story after they all found a safe place to hide.

Once they found a secure cave high up in the snowy mountains and Denahi had built a fire and every was fed, Kenai told their stories. Nanuk was amazed that nita and Kenai used to be human, and that their tribe was now friendly to bears. However there was a new tribe that was not and Denahi had found Nuada, Koda and Sanno just in time to hide them from the killers. Nanuk was grateful to Denahi and thanked him, However he had wandered far from his tribe and was now lost. Nanuk decided that she would help him get back to his tribe as a thank you. Over the time it took to get him back to his home, Denahi and Nanuk had grown close and what’s more Denahi had grown closer to Nuada and sanno. When they reached Denahi’s tribe, she said he did not want Nanuk to go, He took her and the cubs to Tanana the tribes shaman, He told Nanuk that she could turn her human if she so chose to be as well as the cubs. Nauda and Sanno said they were ok with this as they now say Denahi as a father, which was something both cubs never had. Nanuk however loved her life as a bear, Denahi explained he could never survive as a bear but if he needed to he would ask Tanana to change him so that Nanuk could life happily and he could still be with her. Tanana seeing this bond between Denahi and Nanuk came up with a happy medium, she cast on them a spell of the northern lights that would turn them into bears for 2 years and human for two years, and they would change out between the two forms every two years for the rest of their lives.

Relation to Brother Bear: She lives in the same area that the main characters do, she helps Nita and Kenai find a lost Koda, She Becomes friends with Nita, Kenai, and Koda. She falls in love with Denahi, and turns into a human every so often, and he turns into a bear every so often. Denahi and Nanuk get married.
