I have removed all advertisement from Animation Source!
With new regulations and practices to follow becoming more and more complex and dramatically decreasing revenues, it has reached a point where it's no longer profitable for a "small" fansite to maintain those ads. Yes, the "free with ads" model of the web is slowly disappearing - which may or may not be a good thing depending on the situation.
Don't worry though! I started using ads when I quit my job, as a way to make sure I could at least get enough to pay for the server. I've become moderately successful with the videogames I've released on PC and consoles which are giving me decent revenues now, so it was no longer necessary to keep throwing silly ads at you any longer - and it should stay this way.

I'm glad there's no more ads here. It's like the good old days of the
site. Because I remember when you first started the ads and I'm glad
that they're gone. That's pretty cool. And also I gotta try your game
out. |

I made a change to remove the "advert" user, tell me if it doesn't
work. Not sure about spambots, I think that's separate. I use the re-catpcha from Google on the site registration so it should work fine. In case they register from the forums (which I don't think is possible), I've changed and added security questions instead of the CAPTCHA, you'll let me know if that improves the situation. Sometimes they're not bots but humans paid to add adverts links on the site... |

Are the ads associated with spambots that have been spamming the forum
on a regular bases? or is that a separate issue? Just FYI, the "Advert" user still shows up in the comment sections. |

I banned two this morning. One, PatriciaRL, was advertising Pumas. Another posted "I agree with this opinion" on a topic meant for posting linearts.
