It's finally happened. It took almost 10 months, but Frozen has finally ended its theatrical run. This means that there is now no theater in the world that is showing Frozen as part of its theatrical release (some may still show it for special occasions, but that doesn't factor into its final gross).

The film performed best in the United States, where it ended up with a gross of over $400 million. To put that in context, it's only the 19th film to ever pass that mark, the 4th animated film, and only the 2nd original animated film (after The Lion King). It's the only original animated film to make it that far in its original release.

Worldwide, Frozen performed exceptionally well in countries like South Korea and Japan. It's currently Korea's highest-grossing "foreign" film (one made outside of Korean studios), and in Japan it's the second highest-grossing film of all time (after native anime film Spirited Away). It also performed well in all other major markets, particularly during the winter, which was notably more severe than recent years.

All in all, in US dollars, Frozen grossed a total of $1,275,325,369. (You want it in simpler terms? $1.275 billion.) That makes it the fifth highest-grossing film of all time (a distinction that will likely be taken away next year, when such films as The Avengers and Star Wars are released). Disney is looking at a potential re-release this Christmas, so we'll have to see if its gross becomes even higher. To overtake #4, Harry Potter and the Deathy Hollows - Part 2, Frozen would need an additional $60 million. That may seem like a lot, but remember, when Frozen was first released, critics would have been surprised to see it earn a third as much as it ended up making.
