Dipper is the twin sister of Mabel, and one of the main characters in Gravity Falls. He, along with Mabel, go to stay with their great uncle Stan in Gravity Falls, where he stumbles upon a mysterious journal that explains the supernatural goings on of Gravity Falls. Being a curious, inventive and clever 12 year old, he becomes fascinated with it and tries his hardest to uncover the secrets of the journal and Gravity Falls.

Mabel Pines is the optimistic, energetic twin sister of Dipper Pines, and one of the main characters. She and her brother were sent to stay with their Great Uncle Stan in Gravity Falls for the summer, where, they uncover a journal that explains the supernatural goings on of the sleepy town. Being energetic and optimistic, she's not quite as interested in uncovering the author of the journals as her brother is, but she certainly gets herself involved in the antics of Gravity Falls.
Her sweater changes from episode to episode.

Stanford Pines is the great uncle of the Pines twins (who affectionately reffer to him as "Grunkle Stan"), who is a permanent resident in Gravity Falls and owns the "Mystery Shack"- a museum of fake horrors and supernatural objects. He's cranky, greedy and sly, but values his neice and nephew- to the point he denies any supernatural goings on to protect them.
However, he is not what he seems: He has many different identities, each with different names and appearances: He's trying to hide something, but what, is unknown.
He is seen to have his own version of the journal, which he then uses (with the other two) to build a dooms day device.

Soos (real name Jesús) has worked at the Mystery Shack since he was 12 years old. The Shack became very dear to him, and no matter what, he would never get mad at Stan.
He's an awkward (but friendly) man-child, who is shown to live with his grandmother. He often goes with the Pine twins on their adventures.

Wendy is a laid-back, easy going teenage girl who works part time at the Mystery Shack in Gravity Falls, and is also Dipper's crush. Throughout the series, she has been continuously in and out of a relationship with Robbie, oblivious to Dipper's feelings for her in season 1 and the beginnings of season 2. She herself continues to get involved in the antics the Pines twins get into.
