Personality: Dax is very single minded and quite the independent guy. It takes him extremely long to trust others besides his owner, Amber; Dax's loyalty to her is often compares to Toothless' loyalty to Hiccup, which Dax hates. He doesn't like being compared to Dragons of any breed.  Dax has a strong will to attack the Dragons of his village, but he isn't allowed to unless Amber says so; he was originally trained to hunt down dragons that were a threat to the villages and kill them, but now that Berk's inhabitants are living in harmony, things just don't seem right to Dax. He only takes orders from Amber and will show his teeth to those who think he's one to be pushed around and fussed at.

History: Originally, Dax grew up in a large pack of Dire Wolves, he parents being Betas during the time. The food supply got really low really fast since the wolves were killing more than their fair share of the food population in the area. So, instead of starving to death, the pack moved closer to Berk. The humans there did not like wolves at all, and would kill them on sight, but Dax's pack was lucky for the first few months the lived in the area; the wolves managed to slip livestock out of Berk until a band of Vikings made a surprise attack on the pack, killing most of the wolves.
Amber, a dragon huntress at the time who had been placed on the mission, refused to kill Dax and a few of the younger wolves; she suggested to her leader that they should instead raise the young canines and teach them how to become human friendly.
After that, Dax was chosen by Amber to train and has become very loyal to her over the years; he was not only taught to become friendlier to the Vikings, but also to hunt and slay dragons the village inhabitants saw as threatening.

Instinctual Behavior
-Dax, like any other male animal, is very territorial of areas he's claimed as his, Berk being one of them. He will always challenge any other male wolf that enters his territory and chases off intruders, usually stopping only after he's caught them and "dealt with" them.
Dragons
-For Dax, it gets very hard for him to fight against his will to not hunt down every dragon that lives in Berk and kill them

Likes: Amber, Berk, the snow, swimming, winter and the summer/spring, Astrid, sunny days, doing his job, taking orders from Amber

Relation to the How to Train Your Dragon universe: His owner is Amber, an inhabitant of Berk and a friend of Hiccup's. Dax also knows Toothless and likes Astrid very much.
