New Mickey Mouse Shorts - But What Happened?

Written by SkulShurtugalTCG :

It's been YEARS since Disney has pushed out new short films, particularly ones starring Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Pluto - you know, the old gang. This was practically ALL Disney made back in the 50s and 60s, but very few have come out since. In fact, the last short they produced was "How to Hook Up Your Home Theater", which saw its premiere in 2007 - 6 years ago.

The

But now Disney's decided to go ahead and produce a total of 19 new Mickey Mouse short films. In fact, the very first one is already available to view! (Embedding is not allowed with this video, so click the image above to view.)

The style of all the characters is definitely meant to bring back memories of the pre-1940s MIckey Mouse, but the style of the animation itself - well, it's different, that's for sure. Perhaps it's because of the popularity of today's animated shows on Cartoon Network that made Disney decide to go FLASH-STYLE animation, or maybe they're just trying something new and different.

Regardless, this is a two-sided coin. On one hand, Disney's making an effort with their short films again. I mean, growing up, how many of you watched the Disney Channel and saw all those awesome short films looping in the afternoons? But on the other hand... the animation style just is NOT Disney. The company is known for their quality animation, and what we see here is not exactly that.

Anyway, just thought I'd share this with you. Enjoy!

I've re-routed it so that it goes back to the original video page. I only changed it temporarily for the international users; I knew it wouldn't stay up for long.

O' Cap'n My Cap'n!
The following is coming up when the video is played (superimposed over a display of static "noise"):

"This video contains content from Disney, who has blocked it on copyright grounds."

There is, therefore, an obligation to take this down. Not only can members no longer view this, but it is clear that Disney didn't want whomever uploaded it to be sharing it around.

No matter if it had Mickey or not, I still think that Paperman is worth meditioning in the news.

Well, if I must tell my opinion after watching this this cartoon... I like it. I like the mix of Disney's magic with nicely done Flash - styled cartoon ;)

Whether it was digitally drawn or not, I have to say that this short was adorable. I, for one, love this kind of "exaggerated" animation, and even if the short itself is entirely in French, it's still lovable and makes you smile, just like the good ole Mickey, hand-drawn or not.

As for the Paperman short, I saw that a few weeks ago, and after seeing it all over, it was nice to see it for myself, and I was impressed. It was lovely.

While I'm personally a fan of this kind of animation, I certainly hope that it never replaces the single reason that all of the "Disney Classics" remain so loved by all generations: the hand-drawn, sketched with true love, care and passion, style of animation.

Yes, it did. But it's not a "classic Disney" cartoon. It has all original characters, not Mickey or any of the others.

But yes, Paperman was of a similar style and it won the Oscar.

Yeah I also got redirected to the french Disney site, thanks for the new link.
Well it definitely looks interesting. While it's clearly not classic Disney animation, it's still a lot better than the average "Flash" lazy computer-made animation.
So I'd say...if that's the best they can do for now...I hope they'll do more like that :)
