Vote on the Animation Source Awards

Written by SkulShurtugalTCG :

Every year since 2007, the Animation Source Awards have taken place to honor members of Animation Source. However, the popularity the awards once had is definitely not quite there anymore; last year, only 10 people total voted in the final tally, and most of those went to one category instead of the potential dozens offered. Due to this, there is consideration to cancel the awards show this year.

Awards

Another reason for this consideration is the fact that, despite the best intentions, the awards have ended up almost always being a popularity contest. That was not their intended purpose; the Animation Source Awards are meant to be ways to boost viewership for members who create amazing works, but are not as popular as they deserve. This has been the case only rarely - which has arguably one of the most criticized parts of the show.

So, here's what I would like: Comment on this news, saying whether you vote for or against the discontinuation of the Animation Source Awards. You are allowed one comment, and one edit to that comment. Anything more than this will be erased. No debating here, just a simple yes/no, and if you so desire, why/why not.

O' Cap'n My Cap'n!
If there is lack of interest and participation, this ought to be a no-brainer. lol

Discontinuance is the key.

The Source Awards......thats a tough one. x I suppose the only reason I didnt vote was because I didnt know how, and I am regretting not doing it. On the other hand, I dont really agree with the discontinuation, and think one more year ought to do it. If voting doesnt pick up, discontinue it next year.

I vote yes for the discontinuation. The reasons are many, janitors become a popularity thing. And the site has gone downhill it's mot the fun loving place I knew 6 years ago. People don't seem to care. Why out all that effort into something that's gonna get ignored

Yes for discontinuation. Not only will it probably not get a lot of attention but this isn't a friendly community like it used to be. Not worth it.

I say yes to the discontinuation.because It is like becoming a popularity contest like wolftrain said. A lot of the members have left the sources because of drama so they can get awards. Nobody really payed attention to AS choice awards at all and that I think is discontinued.

I think the awards were a good idea because they recognised some of the members that sometimes didn't get appreciation for either their artwork, writing and literature or indeed their contributions to AS in the community and social aspect.
One thing that prevented me from voting was the fact that we had to PM certain members. I think that put me off a little, don't ask why, I don't know. I just didn't like that idea. Perhaps a centralised survey/voting site would be easier, and not to mention a lot more secure.
The awards could possibly also do with a little more publicity? It may just have been me not paying enough attention but I barely noticed them until the very last minute. The banner should be more... catching perhaps?
I personally think the awards are a brilliant idea! Especially for fan art and fan works, because there are a lot of people out there that are making brilliant Balto related art but because they don't ever make fan characters or renders, no one even glances at them.
Take my opinion for what it is, but I think the awards were good for boosting the community spirit. Maybe more categories next time though? Get more people noticed? ^^

I thought the awards were great and it gave the unique opportunity for people with not so many fans and friends to feel like there's even a point in them being on the site. When I got an award, even though it wasn't one of the big ones, it made me feel very special because it made me feel like I was being considered and noticed. It was the kind of thing that cheered me up when I was going through hard times off line.
If we could have some kind of campaign and show people how much the awards really mean maybe they'd have a change of heart and realize how something so effortless like voting can make someone so happy. If it's not too forceful, you could always make it compulsory to vote. :/
Please, use this year that the awards aren't running to consider, listen to as many opinions as possible and think hard as of course it's your decision to make.
I don't know about everyone else, but I looked forward to the awards, viewing them as an opportunity to feel proud of myself.
I understand I came to the site too late to see the ever peaceful community that Silas refers to but I know that just under the surface it's still there. I say it's time to crack down hard and break the shell- get the old Animation source back! I know I'm outnumbered in opinion, but please consider me- I really care about the awards because they helped me so much when I really needed it. If it's taken away, what do I look forward to? I don't have the skill to get the "fan-something" of the week, but I try hard to contribute to the Animation source community, even if it doesn't always work out how I'd planned.

Please, consider.

I'd say you should discontinue it. I don't see the same community like AS had before; no one cares for it anymore. Like Togo's post on the forums, it has become a monster, which has ran away all the people who once found this place their home. I, myself, thought this place was great, but after a while I noticed how the atmosphere changed. It's no longer the once, innocent, and lively site it used to be. It's a junkyard for all the creatures who remain despite the fact that it is no longer what it is.

I say yes to discontinuing it because A.) It's become a popularity contest like you said. B.) A lot of members have left this place, which means less people to look at all the fan creations and less people to contribute. C.) A lot of those that are still on here either don't have any work to share, they have work that isn't worth checking out, or they just create stuff that's intended to be looked at by specific people and not by the entire site. D.) There is less stuff that's actually related to the movies.

I would have to say yes to discontinuing the AS awards. It's not worth the effort because no one really pays attention to the news, or anything going on like this. Again I don't think it's worth the effort everyone puts in to it. It's sort of a waste.
