Name: Amara (meaning 'grace') formerly Laana (meaning 'curse')

Personality: Amara is stubborn, tenacious and hardworking once she has a goal she will chase it no matter what. She is also incredibly loyal to both her pride and her family, willing to take risks for them and help them if they need her. However, she does not warm to newcomers easily and is quite sarcastic and cynical.

History: Amara was born in a pride that lived far from the Pridelands. Her parents were the two pride leaders and her birth was not a happy one. She was the sole survivor of her litter and her mother was so weak that she died not long afterwards. To make matters worse, she was born with a large birth mark on the left side of her face which the pride thought was a sign of her being cursed.

Amara, or Laana as she was known then, was kept away from the other cubs in the pride and the lionesses wouldn't touch her, in hopes that she would soon die, but the young cub stubbornly clung to life. Her father did love her but he knew that once he was gone the pride would tear her apart so, when she was old enough, he took her far away from his own pride and gave her to another pride to be raised and was renamed Amara.

She grew up healthy and relatively happy in her new home, despite wishing to see her father again, and only suffered teasing because of her birth mark.

When the pride she was living in was taken over by two new males, she was open hostile towards them and the two cubs they brought with them. She had to be seperated from them less she start a fight and even when the others began to accept their new leaders, she didn't and it took her a long while before she was able to hold even a civil conversation with either Kopa or Afua.

She was always aware that Afua was uncomfortable around her, probably because of her birth mark, but Kopa was always openly friendly to her, even when she didn't like him. Gradually, the other cub won her over but Afua never seemed to fully relax around her.

As Amara grew older, she started to develop feelings for Kopa but she kept this mostly to herself as Kopa need showed anything other than friendship towards her. However, one day, he took her aside and told her that he planned on leaving the pride. Then she learned the truth.

'Kopa' was really Tanabi, the son of King Simba and Queen Nala of the Pridelands, who had been supposedly killed. He revealed that he and 'Afua' (who's real name was Rickon) had fled the Pridelands when a lioness named Zira attempted to kill them. Chumvi and Tojo had found them and took them in to protect them from the mad lioness, spinning the story that they were their cubs and giving them false names to cover their tracks.

Amara was shocked at first, then angry at being lied to for so long. She didn't know whether she could trust her friend (let alone have feelings for him if everything she knew about him was a lie) but eventually she did realise that he had lied for his own protection. She declared that if he was leaving then she would see him safely to his homeland.
