Personality: Her name describes her well; she refuses to bow down to anyone and give up her life of freedom. She loves to roam, and rarely stays in one place too long. She tends to shy away from other lions, avoiding them as best she can as she's more of a loner. She's very rebellious as well as stubborn, and hates to have someone change her opinion. She isn't the most loyal to others, and rarely holds bonds with others. Out of anything, she hates someone having control over her, and prefers to live on her own, away from the lives of lions who rule over others. She's a free spirit, and will fight if someone tries to control her. She hates those who become subordinate and allow themselves to bow down to another. She believes everyone to be equal, and that no lion should have more power or right than another.

History: Before she was born, her mother lived as queen of her pride, which was ruled by a fair king, her mate. They had a few cubs, and times seemed peaceful. However, a group of rogue males took over, killing the king and any cubs of his. Unbeknownst to the males, her mother was pregnant with the last cub of the king, but she pretended it was theirs. When she gave birth, she was shocked to find her cub had quite a few traits of her old mate. She decided to leave the pride with her cub before she could be found out. But, before she left, she let her dying mother name the cub. She named her Avajñā, not wanting another of her family to bow down to another. So, she left with her cub, causing uproar amongst the pride members, who began to search for her. She managed to live with her cub for a few months, and above anything else, told her daughter to never bow down to another, and that all lions are meant to be equal. Unfortunately, when Avajñā was only a few months old, her mother was tracked down and killed for treason, but Avajñā managed to escape into the desert, now on her own.

At first, she did horribly. The only prey she could catch were lizards and mice, which hardly filled her belly. And knowing other rogues would kill her or take advantage of her, she steered clear of any she saw, and kept to herself. As she got older, she began to take down bigger prey, ranging from antelopes to a small zebra calf. She managed to defend her kills well, until one day she met a cheetah named Swifty. At first, she was wary of the old cheetah, but managed to grow use to him after a while. She hunted for him and gave him protection until he was killed during a hunt. She then met two older males who were seeking out lionesses to join their pride. She talked with them for a while, but when they mentioned her joining the pride, she refused, stating she was her own pride in itself.

Then, she wandered into the Pridelands, where she encountered the presentation of a young male lion cub (Kion), but when the others bowed, she stood tall, keeping her head high. Rafiki was interested in this lioness who refused to bow down to the king's son. He talked to her, and found out about her distaste for things like this. He decided to introduce her to Kiara and Kovu, the future rulers, as well as Simba and Nala, the current ones. They were shocked to find she had no interest in joining their pride where she would have to bow down to one who saw himself as 'special', making others bow down to him. With this, she left and stayed away from the Pridelands, only coming if she needed food desperately.
