Kabili was the second born of Kopa and Vitani. His sister Dafina was older than him, but by only about a year. Kabili was born at around the same time as Kovu and Kiara’s daughter Wema, whose older brother was almost 2 years older than him. Still, all of them got along brilliantly!
One day, when they were all playing in the Pridelands, a strange young cub approached them and asked to play. They all had a great game of tag, and the cub (whose name was Ajali) was invited around to Pride Rock. When he returned he looked sad and he said his parents said he could live at Pride Rock. That cheered him up when they got back.
Kabili liked Ajali and thought he was a great playmate, although no one could pin him as he had inherited his father’s skills. However, as the days wore on, Kabili was getting pinned more and more.
He began to get really thin and faint all of a sudden, so was banished to the cave. He used to love the cave, but as his nose began to run and his eyes became clogged up there wasn’t any hope. One day, soon after Kabili was sent to the cave, Simba came to visit him and told Kabili he was ill and needed to leave Pride Rock as so not to pass on the infection. Kabili agreed, thinking of his friends.
They took him to a small cave not far from Pride Rock. Kabili could see it from the entrance. But soon, his symptoms got worse. He began to vomit and he had times of diarrhoea. Sometimes he felt thirsty all day, but was too weak to go down to the waterhole. However, there was a small stream at the back of the cave where Kabili would drink from. It wasn’t the nicest water he had ever tasted, but it quenched his thirst. Soon, he would dribble consistently for ages and wouldn’t eat any food that was brought to him.
Then, he began to cough. Kabili would cough for hours and have trouble breathing, often lying on the floor panting, forcing any air he could get into his lungs.
Then the seizures started. Kabili had never felt so powerless as to when those fits started. He would huddle at the back of the cave in pain and torture waiting for the seizure to stop. Occasionally, he would stay towards the front of the cave, turning in tighter and tighter circles until he collapsed from dizziness. He also seemed to lose control of his jaw. It would appear that he was eating, although there was nothing in his mouth. This of course began to wear away his teeth which meant he found it harder to eat.
Just when Kabili had decided he had rather die than endure this torture, his seizures became less frequent, he was able to come into the light without flinching, his breathing became less laboured and he felt he had a lot more energy. He was starting to get better.
A few months later, Kabili emerged from the cave feeling better, save for a small twitch every so often and a thicker skin on his paws and his nose. However, he didn’t want to hunt or fight anymore.
As he walked up to the top of Pride Rock he thanked those who helped him get better. The first person he passed was Rafiki, the old baboon who was dying himself, but had given Kabili vitamins to keep his body healthy. Next came Simba and Nala. They would visit Kabili and give him news of the world he was missing. Then it was Chimalsi and Nabii. Chimalsi was ill himself for part of the time, but he was heartbroken/lovesick. Nabii was his mate who was absolutely hilarious, although whenever Kabili laughed he choked. Then came Kovu and Kiara, who would comfort him after a traumatic seizure. Then his female family members, Vitani and Dafina, with Ajali who became Dafina’s mate, who gave him food fresh from a kill and would tell him that they loved him. Finally, at the peak of Pride Rock were the two people who had helped see him through. Kopa and Wema.
Kopa had visited him and told Kabili stories from his past, stories about the Great Kings and stories on the Circle of Life. These stories filled his heart with joy and gave him warmth. He decided he wanted to remember these stories forever, therefore he painted and scratched the walls of the cave with pictures of the stories to remind him. He used his own claws to scratch detail on them and Rafiki leant him some paint for the walls.
Kabili had seen Wema turn from a lovely young cub into a gorgeous lioness. She would visit him speaking of love and hope and happiness. She would also bring him food. One day, he noticed she was limping and was covered in scars. She told him of a hyena attack, but there was something else, he noticed, something he wouldn't tell her.
When he reached Wema he leant towards her and whispered into her ear.
"I love you."
As soon as Kabili reached the top he roared and everyone roared with him, overjoyed at getting their Pride member back.
Kabili went to see Wema after the reunion and they became mates who loved each other for the rest of their lives.
Kabili pictures - me
I would like to make it known that the disease Kabili had was canine Distemper, a common disease for lions to get, although very few actually survive.

Thank you guys! Brown Wolf - I didn't want him to die! However,
reading up on the illness there are some side effects that might
happen in the future. Mateka - I do love Kopa and Vitani - the hair tuft couple! |
