Appearance
Meno is well built, with bulky shoulders, a largish head and a thick tail (which often whips around when he's excited, and especially when he's angry!). He has wild, long whiskers. As a cub he has a small, pale brown tuft of hair on head; in his young-adult years this extends to become be a stiff, matted, Fjord horse-style mane, to his shoulders; and along with his little tuft, he has a rather chunky full mane as a mature adult.

Light golden-yellow fur, with lighter markings on chest, underbelly, muzzle, paws and around eyes; pale brown mane hair (with highlights and low-lights) and tail tuft; red-on-golden eyes; dark brown inner ears; Burgundy red nose.

Personality
Meno is a silent one most of the time, and some may find him hard to decipher he is usually so very reserved. Only his family and very close friends can guess how he feels at any time. He is a deep thinker but is also keen, and although he will often lapse into a train of hard pondering, he is so alert he will snap out of his musings and pay acute attention to whatever he needs to.

Despite his usually withdrawn demenour, Meno does like to have discussions with others, on various subjects. Once he begins to talk, he will usually open right up. And whatever  the topiv may be, he can get very excited about his opinions and often hotly speaks his mind.

History

Meno's father, mother, grandfather and grandmother, were lions from a small zoo in Italy, where all four had been born. For reasons unknown to Meno's relatives, they were moved from Italy to an animal sanctuary - in an Italian-speaking country of East Africa (Somalia) - where Meno was born and raised. He was given the African name Meno (''teeth' in Swahili), christened after an old lion from Kenya who once lived in the sanctuary and who had been very kind to the Italian lions (he passed away shortly before Meno was born).

Meno was a bold, brash cub; a character just as chatty, expressive, passionate as his parents and grandparents - even more so, in fact. Indeed, although his kin loved to hold big, family discussions together, talking very passionately about various subjects, Meno would often be chided with a jocular ''Meno Mosso!'' ('less movement' in Italian) whenever he became overexcited with his own opinions about whatever the conversation concerned. Meno was also very sociable, and had many friends, his closest being an elderly, battle-scarred bull elephant in the sanctuary called Aqoon.

Meno's life was very peaceful in the beginning. But then there came a life-changing event, when Meno was just coming to the end of his cub years . . . 

Poachers, seeking rhino horns, hippo teeth and elephant tusks, entered the animal park one day in the evening hours. They tracked down Meno's friend Aqoon (who had managed to evade many, many poachers throughout his long life, until then). Aqoon knew the poachers had him in sight, but he was too old to move quickly. The hunters took aim with their guns, when suddenly, before they fired, Meno entered the scene; the young lion came between the poachers and Aqoon, walking towards the latter, completely oblivious of the former's presence. The hunters decided to shoot Meno first. Aqoon, however, summoned enough strength to warn Meno, who at first ran headlong towards the poachers in a bid to protect his old elderly friend. But he soon discovered that there were many humans, and evry one of them bore a gun. Luckily, the first few bullets shot at him missed their mark.

Urged by Aqoon, Meno ran off, terrified. When he found his way blocked by the tall park fence, it was no difficult obstruction; he climbed the fence, bullets hitting the netting and posts close by, and landed on the other side. He kept on running.

Scared out of his wits Meno covered a considerable distance, away from the poachers and the animal park. Even though he calmed enough to slow his pace to a walk, he still did not change direction - the guns had seriously frightened him. As hours went by, he found himself in a strange, stone-ridden land, miles from the sanctuary. Only then did he stop and rest, sleeping for half a day. He was woken by a young male lion a bit older than himself. The stranger, who introduced himself as Comoros, was a trainee soldier of the lion pride that lived in the stony land. Comoros offered Meno food and a temporary stay in his pride, The Tribe of Stones. Meno willingly accepted.

The Tribe of Stones was a relatively new pride, and a small one. Its leader, Emperor Obbler, was taking in rogues and strays to build a garrison of fighter lions. He welcomed Meno gladly, with hopes that the newcomer might become part of his pride. Meno decided he would indeed stay, at least until his fear of returning to his birthplace had completely dissolved. He became a trainee soldier alongside his friend Comoros. He and Comoros became ace fighters; in time, they were so good that they were sent out on missions to uncover secrets of enemy pride.

So as it happened Meno stayed many years in the Tribe of Stones. During Meno's fifth year as a Stone Lion, Obbler's tribe formed an alliance with Kovu and Kiara, leaders of the Pridelanders; together the two prides rallied against a foe pride ruled by King Jafiya. Meno and Comoros often went on special assignments with three top Pridelander soldiers, Fimbo, Ochoyo and Taz.

Meno and Comoros had both been promoted to the rank of Funo (equal to a general), when they were sent to aid another lion group, the Goldencraters, who were having trouble with attacks from foreign rogues - Obbler hoped that in helping the Goldencraters, the Stone Lions would have another ally to help defeat Jafiya. Half-way to the Goldencrater territory, they met Ochoyo the Pridelander, who told them that he had been sent by his leaders to help them, representing his own people. The three reached their destination and were welcomed warmly. 

A period of several months passed by. Obbler heard nothing of his Funo Meno Mosso and Comoros, and began to worry, as they had promised to inform him of their progress helping the Goldencraters every few months or so. To the Goldencrater lands he sent a messenger, who returned to the Emperor with strange news; Ochoyo the Pride Lander was now leader of the Goldencrater Pride, which was now a sad, decaying group, with very few members. And Meno and Comoros had disappeared. Ochoyo said that they had been ''dealt with'' by enemies, although he would not tell anybody who the enemies were. Obbler (and many others) suspected a dark conspiracy behind it all, and he quickly decided to throw away any plans of alliance with the Goldencraters. He also sent off search parties to try and track down his two missing soldiers. But no trace of either of them could be found, and with the threat of a massive battle between his pride and King Jafiya's looming close, the number of search parties dwindled and decreased. Meno Mosso and Comoros had to be forgotten for the time being.

Obbler won the war against Jafiya, who with some followers were banished. For a long time there was peace for Obbler's Stone Lions. The Emperor remembered Comoros and Meno Mosso, and once again ordered they be tracked down. Suddenly, rumours came that Jafiya appeared to be rallying a large garrison against the Stone Lions. Obbler was distraught, for the Pride Landers, his old allies who had helped him win the first conflict, refused to fight alongside him once more.
