History: Late one night in the Pride Lands, Queen Uru went into labor. A while later, three healthy and strong cubs were born. The oldest, a male named Mufasa, would be the future king according to tradition. Thema was the last of the triplets to come into the world, but suprisingly the first to open her eyes. Even though she would most likely never take her mother’s place as queen, the king and queen were very proud of their little daughter. Ahadi and Uru marveled at how quickly their children grew, especially Thema. Among the three, she was the first to walk, talk and take solid food. Soon Thema and her brothers had left behind babyhood behind, and so began to explore the world around them. Mufasa quickly established himself as the leader of the three, being the oldest and the strongest, but Thema was careful not to let his dominance go to his head. Two other cubs that the triplets quickly inducted into their little group were Sarabi and Sarafina. Sometimes when the boys were busy, Thema would sneak off and meet up with her new best friends to play or go someplace cool. The three girls developed a special, lasting connection that made it perfectly easy for them to talk about most anything with each other. One day, the five friends decided to visit someplace new together. Mufasa was the first to speak up, telling his friends that his dad had told him about a forbidden place full of big elephant bones. The girls immediately objected and said the idea was no good, but with a little extra persuasion from Taka and the assurance from Mufasa that no harm would come to any of them, the girls gave in. Even though Thema was still nervous about going to a strictly off-limits territory, her interest was undoubtedly piqued. Without being seen by Zuzu or the adults, the cubs made off for a daring escape to the forbidden graveyard. The girls naturally assumed Mufasa would take the lead this time, but for the first time he felt a little uneasy. For Taka, however, this was an opportunity to show his strength and bravery. He always took a more active role in the day’s activity whenever Sarafina was around, and did things for her he wouldn’t normally do for anyone else. Thema and Sarabi had their suspicions about them, but decided to keep quiet about it.
To everyone’s surprise, Taka acted very calmly and naturally in the graveyard. He explained he’d been here before by himself, and he even made a few friends. Thema and the others never knew anything about it before Taka had come out with it just then. As they explored dark caverns and slid down big piles of bones, they all heard a sound that made their hair stand on end- laughing. Mufasa and the girls were scared stiff, but once again, Taka took the lead and introduced them to his “friends” that he had made. Mufasa scolded his brother for being foolish enough to make friends with the hyenas, their enemies. But Taka paid no attention and reassured the girls that they were friendly and wouldn’t hurt anyone. Thema was the first to greet them, followed by Sarabi, Sarafina and finally, Mufasa. Once they felt a little more trustful with each other, the young hyenas introduced themselves as Shenzi, Banzai and Ed. They showed them all the cool places to play in the graveyard, their home. Thema somehow felt sorry for them despite the fact that they were supposed to be enemies, being forced to live in a place like this their whole lives. It turned out that the cubs and the hyenas were able to get along with each other just fine, although Mufasa still insisted that it wasn’t right. The fun continued for a while, until the thing that the cubs dreaded even more than the hyenas showed up: Ahadi. In as many polite words as one can use, Ahadi told the young hyenas to scram. All the cubs were in deep trouble, and they knew it just by seeing the look on the angry lion’s face. When they were well back in the Pride Lands, Ahadi sternly told the girls that their mothers were waiting for them and that they should hurry home if they didn’t want to be in any more trouble than they were already. Uru was practically in tears by the time her daughter got back. She told her never to do anything like that again, nuzzled her and comforted her. Thema obeyed her mother and never went back, but she still wondered sometimes about those hyenas. The day after, the cubs were grounded at Pride Rock. It was a beautiful day, making things even worse for the cubs. Ahadi had just come back from patrolling, this time with a cub in tow. The cub was beaten and bruised, but smiling a faint smile. The cub, whose name was apparently Kereenyaga, was about Thema’s age. He was found all alone, Ahadi explained. The friends were anxious to meet the new cub, but the king and queen shooed them away so they could talk. The day after that, the cubs were let outside again, this time with Kereenyaga. Sarafina thought the name was too long to pronounce, so she suggested he just be called Kereen. The name stuck. Soon Kereen was inducted into the little group, and with one more, the cubs were happier than ever. Time passed quickly, and the cubs were now teens. Thema was excited for her first hunt with her friends, Sarabi and Sarafina. Uru began more and more to pass her wisdom down to Sarabi, as she would be the next queen. Thema was disappointed that Taka didn’t want to spend time with much of anybody anymore, and seemed to be bitter at Mufasa. She and Kereen tried talking to him, but to no avail. Even Sarafina, who had become a confidant of sorts to him, couldn’t get him to talk about Mufasa. Kereen was a constant comfort to his sister, always telling her that Taka would be alright. Besides Taka being on her mind, Thema didn’t fare too badly. She even was able to bring down a zebra on her first hunt along with Sarabi and Sarafina. Around this time, a new lion called Mega showed up. He was young and handsome, if not a little proud for her tastes. She was shocked to learn that this new lion was her betrothed, a prince from a far-off pride. They had little time to get to know one another before their marriage, which bothered her greatly. The day of her marriage would be the last time she saw all of her friends and family together. It was almost too much to bear all at once for Thema. She was being forced to move far away with a lion she hardly even knew. But she endured the ceremony with every ounce of dignity and grace she could muster, knowing it was her responsibility as a princess. The next day, Thema held back tears as she bid her family goodbye. Sarabi and Sarafina were equally sad to see her go, but they promised her that they’d meet again and everything would turn out for the best. When Thema arrived in her new home, she felt like a total stranger among the pride. She wished that Kereen was there to comfort her like he always did, or Sarabi and Sarafina could talk to her. She was so wrapped up in her grief that she didn’t even notice her mate was there, trying his hardest to make her come around. After a few hard weeks, Thema began to recover from her shock and adjust to life in her new home. She discovered that Mega wasn’t so bad, as far as mates went, and over time they bonded and learned to love each other. Thema proved herself to be every inch a queen, lifting her people up in any way she could. She was the favorite among the cubsitters and told wonderful stories to the young ones. A few years went by happily and without event until that fateful day when her brother Mufasa and nephew Simba were killed in a terrible accident. By the time she arrived in the Pride Lands, she learned that her friend Sarabi was in mourning for her mate and young son; Taka, who was now called Scar, had taken over and let the hyenas across the borders, and Sarafina already had a daughter named Nala with another cub on the way. When Thema asked her friend who the father was, Sarafina lied and said she didn’t know. When Thema got back to her own pride a few short weeks later, there were already refugees from the Pride Lands there. Thema, naturally, took them and raised them as her own children. More time passed and the news came that the Pride Lands had been restored, her nephew had returned from the dead to dethrone his uncle and he was now the king. Thema was overjoyed and wanted to move back to the Pride Lands to be with her family. Mega was unsure at first, but she managed to convince him that things would be fine back home. One of the little refugees, now all grown, led the pride in Mega’s place. Mega and his mate were free to go wherever they pleased. The couple lived out the rest of their years in the Pride Lands, happy to watch a new generation grow.
