Araawa is the daughter of Jivu and Safiri, refugees from the Pridelands. She lives with her parents, and her brother Joka and sister Meeyse in a secluded valley away from the prides, and life is good.

Until Joka disappears, and Araawa is visited by her leonine ancestors, the Great Kings, in her sleep.

According to them, she is a Sentinel, a being created by Lesedi, Godess of Light, to battle the oncoming Darkness. The Darkness is a force created by Boso, God of Darkness, which he uses to consume the souls of the lions and use them for his own purposes.

And it is Joka, who Boso has used as the Dark One, bringer of Darkness.

If Araawa can't stop him, the leonine race will fall and Gods will walk the land once more.

Kukuona is a wanderer, forever travelling the lands with his little brother Sindikiza. After the death of Kukuona's first mate, the two are very secluded and Kukuona is distant, and things begin to break apart between the brothers.
