The Lion Guard is an upcoming sequel/spin off to Lion King. It will premiere with a one-hour movie in November 2015, followed by a television series on Disney Junior in January 2016. It will feature Kion, the son of Simba and Nala.

The story begins in the heart of the African savannah, as Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, assembles a team of his close friends to preserve the Pride Lands. The show will also include special appearances by Mufasa, Timon, Pumbaa, Rafiki, Zazu and Kion’s older sister, Kiara, the future Queen of the Pride Lands. The show will focus on conservation education, the importance of family and community, while also highlighting creative problem-solving skills and diversity.

 

Disney Consumer Products is to launch a line of toys to tie into the television series. Five new books inspired by the series are slated to be released in early 2016: Bunga the Wise, Can't Wait to be Queen, Kion, Pride of the Pridelands, Kion's Animal Alphabet, and Meet the New Guard.
