Asha's First Hunt

the young teenage lioness crouched down as the antelope grazed only a few feet away. Every muscle tense, she prepared to attack, but then a rock was kicked underfoot, causing the antelope to flee, the lioness gasped and tried to chase after it, but it was already too far ahead.

Oooh, I messed up again... she groaned, dropping her ears, some hunter I'm turning out to be...

Well Asha, it is only your first hunt after all. a voice came behind her. Asha turned around to see her mother, Kiara, queen of the pridelands and the head of the hunting team. Asha sighed.

Mother, surely you had more success on your first hunt. she insisted. The queen chuckled.

Actually I started the same way, worse actually, but with practice, I got better. she said, and I know you will too. Hunting is a difficult skill to master, especially when alone.

I suppose. Asha said, looking down at her paws. Kiara smiled and nuzzled her eldest daughter.

You'll be a wonderful hunter, love. she murmured, give it time.
