Kobee and Nala and been growing increasingly close over the past few days, due to his unsocial habits his main contact was Nala within the pride and they had spent a lot of time together. At first he was hesitant about the situation, he had never longed for a mother figure even though at times his mind would wonder about what it was like. But as they talked, Kobee realised just how much Nala was offering him. She took him in as though they had never been apart; she shared her stories with him. Most of the stories were about his father and on many occasions Kobee just listened to his mother ramble on about the memories the young couple had once shared. Nala told him how she had never met a lion like his father and that the two fell so madly in love that they forgot about the rest of the world. She told him how he was the son that they both craved how they tried for many seasons to bring about a cub but were never able to. She took him to the place that his sister had been laid to rest and they bathed in each others silence for the lost member. Nala admitted that Kobee was everything like his dad; she even said that when she had first seen him, she thought it was her mate. The only giveaway was his lighter fur colour which she had pinned to old age and his blind eye. Kobee felt honoured to have made his mother so proud, and he knew his father would have been proud too but at the same time he cherished his upbringing with Kima.
On one night however, the moon was exceptionally bright in the sky and Nala took Kobee aside. They wandered for what seemed like hours until they came to a small retreat where Nala stopped, she turned her attention to Kobee and then grinned.
Isnt this beautiful? She asked him, he tilted his head to the side in confusion at her but then he nodded. Gazing up at the stars he noticed that they were almost blinding as they gleamed down upon the land. His eyes polished over with wonder and he became lost as he searched for a constellation that resembled Kima. But without warning Nala pulled him back to reality once more as she nuzzled his shoulder slightly. Its so good having you here, Kobee.
Kobees tail flicked as she spoke and his hard expression melted slightly, he offered her a genuine smile and then cleared his throat.
Even now, I still question why I came here. He admitted, he stared her right in the eye. Although everyone is still adjusting to my arrival, Kopa and Simba both seem very standoffish. He chose his words carefully, each falling from his mouth and forming what seemed like a well-planned sentence. He held his posture high before relaxing into a lazier position and placing his rump against the soft grass.
Nonsense, Nala exclaimed, she seemed somewhat outraged by his remarks and he pressed his ears against his skull. You are more a part of this family than you will ever know Kobee. You are one of us, for goodness sakes you are my first born child! It doesnt matter how long it takes for the others to accept you, what matters is that we found our way back to each other. Our paths were always intertwined Kobee, I knew when I handed you to Kima, I knew I would see you again.
Nala picked herself up and then wandered slightly closer to Kobee, she pressed her head under his muzzle and for the first time he returned the embrace. He let her warm skin come into contact with his own and he sank deeper into the clasp. He was no longer uncomfortable around this lioness, he had to admit, he was so happy he had found her. Beaming with pride he closed his eyes tightly and for a brief moment, the world around him seemed to slip away. They were making up for lost time.
