The beginning of Lagiza's cruelty . . .
The sad loss of his father and brother, left Lagiza and his mother very unstable.
Nika, who had become mad due to it, and who had never told her tribe about her other son's disappearance (for fear they should accuse her for being a weak mother and therefore not a good enough leader), ordered her brother, Oben to find her a cub to replace the one who was stolen from her. So Oben returned with little "I".
Here, Lagiza's cub-hood friend tells Lagiza that his parents suspect I is not Nika's cub.
Lagiza, defending his mother, rakes his friend across the face in anger with a shout, "Say that again, Kova, and I'll do it again! He is my brother!"
After Nika heard about what happened, Kova and his parents were banished from the tribe.
