Season 3 is the third season in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Though it may be 13 episodes short, it's none the less full of new and exciting adventures!

Right off the bat, this season is introduced to a menacing new villain: King Sombra. Known for ruling over theCrystal Empire and enslaving the crystal ponies, he returns in the season 3 premiere, trying to invade the empire which Cadence was trying hard to protect and rule over with Shining Armor. Together, the 6 friends have to work together to fend off his evil forces, protect the empire and stop him once and for all!

While only one villian, it doesn't mean we're short of side characters: We're introduced to Babs Seed, Apple Bloom's blank flank cousin from Manehatten, and Lightning Dust, a pegasus who likes to push herself to the limits at the Wonderbolt Academy. We also see the return of familiar faces, like Trixie and Discord, both causing trouble in Ponyville and for the girls!

At the very end of season 3, something big (And life changing) happens to our favourite purple unicorn: She is granted wings, and ascends into alicorn hood, becoming a princess of Equestria! After fixing a spell that changed the fate of her 5 friends, Celestia grants her her wings, as she has proven herself worthy of a title as princess.

Sadly, Lauren Faust left completely, and had no involvement what-so-ever in the making of this season. However, we welcome two brand new writers: Corey Powell and Teddy Antonio.
