New Orleans 1926, life is showing its hard side to the young waitress Tiana, daughter of the hard working parents James & Eudora. She never lost focus on her dream, her own restaurant, she and her father have planned. To reach her goal Tiana does several jobs so she´ll earn enough money to buy the old building suppost to become her restaurant one day.  Life is way easier for Tiana´s childhood-friend Charlotte, daughter of the indulgent Eli "Big Daddy" LaBouff, being part of the most wealthy and most influential families of New Orleans.

One day, the young, carefree Prince Naveen of Maldonia arrives in New Orleans to be part of the Mardi Gras party and being the special guest of the LaBouffs. Much for the joy of Charlotte who dreamt of marrying a prince since she way a little girl. Even before Naveen arrived she had plans on how he´ll marry her. 

But Naveen was more attracted to the jazz music played everywhere on the streets than visiting the party and doing what he was there for: marrying a wealthy girl to prevent himself from becoming poor. Soon he found himself at Doctor Facilier, a misterious vodoo practicing man, living in an dark alley of New Orleans. Even though his companion Lawrence was suspicious about that man Naveen completely trusted the stranger.

After a short future telling Facilier convinced both, Naveen and Lawrence to agree to his dark pact. Using a vodoo pendant filled with a bit of Naveen´s blood he transformed Naveen into a frog and gave Lawrence the look of Naveen. With that he planned to get access to the LaBouff empire to get all the influence Mr. LaBouff has.

Due to a mistake Lawrence made out of pity for the prince, Naveen was able to escape. Searching for a way to get back to his own self he met Tiana dressed up as a princess. Soon Naveen came to the idea that the kiss of a princess will transform him back to his human self. After a little discussion he finally convinced Tiana to kiss him but the result was not expected, now both where caught in a frog´s body.

On their quest to find a way to break that pact Tiana and Naveen met the friendly alligator Louis, who´s biggest wish is to play jazz on his trumpet with a real band and the love sick firefly Ray. Both helped them to find their way to the vodoo priestress Mama Odie, a 197 years old blind woman who lives with her pet snake Juju in the deep woods of the Bayou.

But even Mama Odie can´t transform Naveen & Tiana back, she just gave them the advice to take a deep look into their heart to get all they need. This answer wasn´t enough for the prince and the waitress so Mama Odie gave them the advice to go back to New Orleans and find a princess who will kiss Naveen. She even told them who this princess will be, Charlotte LaBouff, who´s father got announced to be the king of the Mardi Gras festival.

In a hurry they tried to get back to New Orleans because the kiss needed to happen before Mardi Gras ends otherwise Charlotte won´t be a princess anymore. But Dr. Facilier knew about that and tried everything possible to hamper the prince´s comeback. But he failed and soon ended up having to pay his bills to the shadows by giving his soul.

So naveen and Tiana made their way back to New Orleans but they where too late, the kiss didn´t work anymore. But somehow it wasn´t that important to Naveen and Tiana anymore. During their quest they slowly got closer to each other and finally figured out what they really needed to be happy, each other.

Some time later both married in the Bayou and as Naveen kissed his new wife they both transformed back into humans. The pact was broken. By marrying Tiana Naveen made her become a princess.

With Naveen´s help Tiana finally got her restaurant and both lived happily after.
