The Motion Picture Association of America has granted Rio 2 a G rating for the United States. This is the first time a film has been rated G since last year's Monsters University, and to date, this is the only G-rated film this year.

It's worth noting that the first Rio originally received a PG rating (for mild peril), but was granted a G rating on appeal. Normally, studios prefer PG for their films, as an incentive for families to attend the showings instead of just parents with small children. However, it seems Fox isn't so interested in that right now.

Rio 2 comes to US theaters on April 11.
