Following the news that the song "Real in Rio" had received an Oscar nomination for Best Song, the writer Sergio Mendes commented that Carlos Saldanha, the director of Rio, is wanting to develop a sequel, which he hopes to come out right around the 2014 World Cup.
Does this mean a sequel will happen? Guess we'll just have to wait and find out for sure. At this point...it seems likely.

I don't know, We sure this is a good idea? I don't know how they'll
move on with sequel i mean with newer characters and that the first
movie in my opinion seemed sorta closed to the idea of a sequel. Don't
get me wrong, I will definitely see it but..... I should do some
speculation. |
