The movie is narrated by minstrel character Alan-a-     dale ("The Rooster") who describes Robin Hood (A fox)  and Little John (A bear) as outlaws who rob from the rich and give to the poor people of Nottingham. 

The are constantly being chased by the law, most notably the Sheriff of Nottingham.  Prince John, the ruling king of England, passess through Nottingham, and is robbed by Robin Hood and Little John themselves through the use of disguises and trickery.

Robin Hood is madly in love with Maid Marian, King Richard's daughter.  Maid Marian shares his feelings even though they have not seen each other for years.  The movie builds on these emotions, as Prince John holds an Archery Tournament to trap Robin Hood as he knows Robin Hood will enter.  Robin Hood does enter, hoping to win the prize, it being a kiss from Maid Marian.

Robin is eventually found out of course, and captured by Prince John, but only for a short while as he and Maid Marian escape into the woods.

The Robin Hood film had a very small budget, a lot of the animation used to make the film was used in previous animated movies.  One of the most notable of these is a dance scene, which was traced from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

At first, this movie was not even meant to be about Robin Hood, but a character called Reynard the Fox.  However, due to Walt Disney's concern that Reynard was an unsuitable choice for a hero, Ken Anderson used many elements from it in Robin Hood.
