Chapter One

Nome

It was a cold April night, the wind was blowing feircely and howling like the wolves themselves. Sofiel whimpered and kicked in her sleep. Sanaza woke from his sleep to check on her as pack leader. "sofiel" he whispered nudging her lightly. She howled and jumped to her feet. Her light pink-ish hair stood up and her icey blue eyes were wide and alert. "are you ok child?" Sanaza asked nuzzling her neck. "I'm fine" she saisd flicking him back with her tail. Sanaza sighed and sat down wit a stern look on his face. Sofiel sighed and lying back down. "ok" she sighed,"I had another dream about her, and the day papa's humans dumped me" She murmured. Sanaza sighed and scratched his ear. "look, you old enough now maybe it's time to look for her" he said laying down. "maybe but i don't even know where to start." Sofiel said. "Nome" sanaza rumbled closing his eyes. "nome?" Sofiel asked tilting her head. "trust me" sanaza huffed falling into dream land. Sofiel looked at him in deep thought. She sighed getting up she shook out her fur before walking to the cave opening. "what lies in nome?" she thought watching the snow wipe by with the wind current.

The next  morning Sanaza awoke to find the packs pups playing hunt, with the runt as the prey. "i don't wanna be the deer!" the runt whined with his tail between his legs. Sanaza chuckled and streched. "were's the half breed?" he asked referring to Sofiel. "she left earlier today said something about nome" The runt said running as the other pups chased him. Sanaza's ears went down. "oh ok you play nice" he called after them, he looked up and out of the cave. "good luck Sofiel" he sighed.

Sofiel trudged threw the thick snow. She was up to her chest elbows in it. "maybe this wasn't a good idea after all" she said shivering. "i don't even know where nome is, or how far" she muttered taking one struggled step after another. She shivered again when a howl sounded through the fridged air. It was Sanaza, Sofiel's ear perched up,  throwing back her head she answered his call. A smile came to her face, "I think i'll be fine, my pack is always there" she thought continuing on.

Hours passed and Sofiel paws begain to hurt. Seating herself under a tree and cleaned her paws. There was a gun shot in the distance, to Sofiel it was as loud as an Atomic bomb for it ment danger. She Jumped to her feet and snarled as the brushes moved wildly. Her snarl was returned. "who goes there!" she barked. "i don't know you tell me" a smooth deep voice said to her. Sofiel lowered her gaurd as a Dark brown dog came from the bush. Sofiel cracked a smile and tried not to laugh. " a McNab?" she said laughing. The dog growled "only partly are what are you!" he growled. sofiel stoped laughing and looked around. "Lost" she muttered. "well looks like you could use some help, follow me and my human, but hide, he'll shoot you if he see's you" he said. "why are you helping me?" Sofiel asked. the dog looked back at her with a smile "because it's the right thing to do, an the lighting in your eyes tells me your looking for something" he said. "oh...well thanks i am" Sofiel said walking closer. "names Niles, and you are?" the dog asked. "sofiel" Sofiel said following him. "nice to meet you, now stay here and follow us, when we get to nome look for  a wolf dog named tampa He'll help you out there" Niles said walking ahead of Sofiel. "ok thank you " sofiel said slightly confused.

Sofiel followed Niles and his human through the forest and Niles kept looking back to make sure she was there. "ok boy we're home I need to go to the post office" Niles owner said patting Niles' head. Niles wagged his tail and barked happily. Once his owner had left he turned to sofiel who had slinked out of the shadows. "this is it" he said Sofiel looked around. "cute" she muttered boredly brushing past him. " so where do i find Tampa?" she asked. "right here 'ey niles" a smooth coated red and white fur. She could see the wolf in him. "hello tampa thi sis sofiel, she in search for something, she needs help and you take her to balto?" Niles said. Tampa smiled. "sure why not i've nothing better to do" he said shrugging. "follow me" he added. Sofiel did as told but haulted, "bye niles thank you" she said. Niles wagged his tale. "by? what do you mean i'll see you around latter" He said. Sofiel cracked a small smile before running to catch up to Tampa.

"so you new around here?" Tampa asked. "er yeah you could say that" Sofiel replied slowing down She rolled her eyes. "i thought that was obvious" She thought to her self. "so watcha looking for?" he asked looking back at her. "my mo-mother" Sofiel said picking up her speed and looking around the town. The humans seemed friendly but she had her gaurd up. Kids pointed and yelled doggie. Woman commented on how pretty she was. "don't worry you'll get used to the humans they loved the look of use wolf dogs." Tampa said laughing. Sofiel stopped "used to? i'm not staying" sofiel said catching back up. "sure your not" tampa said shaking his head.
