"Kodi are you alright?" Dusty asked. Kodi was laying face down on his porch, the blazing sun, warming his red fur. Kodi replied with a muffled, "No." Dusty put her paw on his forehead and quickly pulled it off. "Kodi, you're burning up. Kodi you're sick." Kodi looked up at her with sagging eyes. "ya think?" Dusty pulled Kodi up and pushed him through the dog door. "Stay in there. Your fur will get caught on fire from the heat. Plus you need rest." Kodi obliged. He layed his head down on the ground and said, "Where's Kayella?" Dusty sighed. "Why do you insist on being with her?" Kodi replied stiffly, "I love her." Dusty was about to answer when a pretty husky/retriever walked into the living room. "Kodikins!" She ran over to him and nuzzled him. "Ow!!" She screamed. She put a paw gently on the burned patch of fur. Whitish smoke sizzled up from it. "Go away Kayella. I was fine taking care of him myself."

Dusty glared at Kayella and she said, "I'm his mate. I should have the privelige to take care of my Kodilicious." Dusty rolled her eyes and said, "He wants to break up with you for me." Kayella's eyes widened. "What?" She slapped Kodi across the face. Kodi sat up straight, well tried to but fell back down. He whispered, "Kayellakins. I love you. dusty is just a jelous bum." Kayella sighed and licked Kodi's burning forhead. "Im sorry sweetie pie munchkin." Kayella replied. Dusty glared at Kodi. "I loved you Kodi." Kodi looked at her, his eyes bloodshot. "Im sorry Dusty. You are a great friend but Kayella means the world to me." Dusty rolled her eyes disgusted. "Well whatever. Bye Kodi." She turned and walked out the door with a swish of her tail.

"Okay Kodi lets go." Kayella said. Kodi looked at her with saggy eyes and repled, "Im sick Kay." Kayella's eyes widened. "You weren't just faking it!?" Kodi raised an eyebrow. "Why did you think i was faking?" Kayella replied, "To get rid of the stupid bitch Dusty." Kodi's eyes widened. "Whoa back it up there Kayella. Dusty is not a stupid bi.... She is a good friend and I respect her." Kayella smiled. "Well whatevs. Come on. You promised me that you were going to take me to the beach. Remember?"

Kodi looked up at her with bloodshot eyes. "I know. Im sorry Kayella. I just can't right now. I dont wanna risk you getting sick too. Im sorry. When im feeling better, ill take you okay?" Kayella rolled her eyes. "Whatever Kodi. Come find me when you're feeling better." Kodi watched her as she turned around and left his porch.

A couple of weeks later, Kodi was feeling a little better. He got up and was running around his yard. "Hey Kodi!" Kodi skidded to a stop and turned around. He saw one of his friends, Jackson sitting by his fence. Kodi trotted over to him and sat inches from his face. "Hello Jackson. What are you doing here?" Jackson laughed. "Just visiting. Can't I visit my good friend Kodi?" Kodi thought for a second. "Yes i suppose." They both shared another laugh and Jackson said, "So what are you and Dusty doing tonight?" Kodi raised an eyebrow. "Dusty? Me and her aren't mates. She is just my friend." Jackson shook his head. "No no no. You guys ARE mates. When you were sick, Kayella broke up with you and you asked Dusty out."

Kodi's eyes widened. "What!? Why don't i recall this? Seriously Jackson. Are you going crazy or something? Because honestly, I dont know what you are talking about." Jackson sighed. "Okay whatever you think." Kodi shook his head. "Now where is Kayella?" Jackson replied, "I dont know. But i better get going." Kodi nodded and Jackson left. When he was out of sight, Kodi climbed under the fence and went next door.

"Kayella?" He called. He walked through the dog door and saw Kayella sleeping soundly on her bed. "Kayella." He whispered and gently woke her up. "What? Who?" Her eyes snapped open and she looked at Kodi. "What do you want Kodi?" She snapped harshly. Kodi backed up just alittle. "Im feeling better and I had promised you that I would take you to the beach when I was. Remember?" Kayella turned her head away. "I remember that when you were my mate." She told him. Kodi narrowed his eyes. "Wait what? You are. I love you more than anything Kayella." He said. Kayella sighed in disgust. "Whatever. Thats why you cheated on me with Dusty?" Kodi was freaking out.

"Seriously Kay. This is stupid. I would never cheat on you with Dusty. I told you she was a good..." "Mate?" Kayella interrupted. "Kay. You're being stupid. I am NOT mates with Dusty. Yea I was long before I met you. We broke up because we thought it would be better for the mail team. Obviously she's still a little obsessed with me. But can you blame her? I mean with these dashing good looks..." He paused for a minute and walked in a circle.

Kayella sighed. "No Kodi. We broke up and you and Dusty are completly in love. Dusty is even pregnant." Kodi's eyes widened. "What! That's impossible!" Kayella growled. "It's not impossible if the whole mail team and half the dogs in town saw you mating with her!" Kodi narrowed his eyes. "Kayella. I would NEVER cheat on you. You mean the most in the world to me. EVer!" Kodi exclaimed.

Kayella shook her head. "I hate you Kodi and I hope that you and Dusty both die in hell.!" She turned and stormed away.

Kodi sighed sadly. "Love. Love stinks. Love is the only type of pain in this world.." He turned and goes to the Post Office. The mail team was lined up outside it while Duke is packing letters and packages onto the sled.
