Sudden Changes: Chapter 1
"Wow, that was great!" Mafuta exclaimed. "Can we do it again?" She turned to Buli and Nesibindi.
"Not in a while...," Nesibindi groaned.
Buli giggled, "Maybe tomorrow. But I'm tired now."
Mafuta rolled her eyes, "Fine, let's go back." She turned and lead her two friends back to their home.
Mafuta was a tan lioness with red eyes. Her face was decorated with leaves and nuts. Since a young cub Mafuta had always been playing with her friends. At this time she was a young adult, and so were her two friends, Buli and Nesibindi. Buli was a light yellow lioness with green eyes and a white muzzle and belly. Nesibindi was an orange lion with red eys and a brown mane.
They had been playing in a lake, but accidently upset an angry animal, which caused chaos. Of course, Mafuta thought it was fun, as always.
"They look beautiful!" Buli gasped, as she lay down next to her two friends who were star gazing. There were few clouds, which made it easier to see the starry sky.
"The stars aren't as beautiful as Mafuta," Nesibindi thought as he stared at Mafuta, but accidently said aloud.
Mafuta looked at him and he blushed, then turned away. She giggled, then went back to star gazing as they fell asleep in the grass.
Mafuta woke up the next morning, alone. She looked around, realising Buli and Nesibindi had already woken up. "How late is it?" Mafuta wondered. She turned her head and could see in the distance that today's chaos had already started. The younger lions were screaming and chasing after each other, probably playing tag or a different game.
The Kamilifu Pride was a fun pride, unlike some others. It seemed like lions there never grew up, as the played even when they were adults.
Mafuta got up to join them, but stopped when she saw her elephant friend Ashtaa with her two children and her elephant herd walking passed.
"Hey, Ashtaa!" Mafuta greeted her old friend. She looked at Harak, who hid behind his mother. He had always feared Mafuta, and she didn't know why.
"Hello, Harak and Belee!" She said, staring at the young elephants, except she could only see Harak's feet.
"Good morning, Mafuta!" Belee smiled at the young lioness.
"How are you feeling today, Belee?" Mafuta asked. Belee and Harak had recently been feeling rather bad and sick.
"I'm feeling good, are you?" Belee asked and the lioness nodded.
"And you, Harak?" Mafuta asked, but there was no answer. She didn't expect one. "Anyway, I must get back to my pride. Bye, Ashtaa!" Mafuta said and left.
When she got to the pride she could see something was wrong. The lions and lionesses were no longer playing, and looked worried. Parents had their cubs standing were close to them, and they looked worried, too.
"What's going on?" Mafuta wondered. Then she saw Nesibindi and Buli and decided to ask them, "What's going on, guys?"
"Rogue," Buli whispered to her friend.
Mafuta was surprised, it had been years since there was last a rogue in the area. "Where?"
"We're not sure yet," Said Nesibindi. "The King is trying to locate it."
"How do they know there is one?" Mafuta asked.
"The Queen spotted one," Buli replied.
"Where's Mum?" Mafuta asked.
"She's in your den," Nesibindi replied.
"Thank you," Mafuta ran towards her den.
Themanini, Mafuta's mother, was sitting in the den, waiting for her daughter.
"Mum!" Mafuta said as she ran into the small cave. It was near the border of the Kamilifu area, and was a dangerous place to live.
"Mafuta!" Themanini turned around and saw her daughter.
"Are you okay, Mum?" Mafuta asked.
"Yes, I'm fine," Themanini replied. "Don't worry about the rogue, the king will know what to do."
Mafuta nodded, but was still worried. Her father was attacked and chased away by the last rogue that came, and ever since then Mafuta feared them.
"Let's go to the others, the rogue might be near the border, " Themanini suggested. "It isn't safe."
Mafuta nodded and followed her mother out the den.
When they arrived they noticed all the lions were standing next to each other, forming a circle. They were surrounding something, but Mafuta could not see what.
"Mafuta, Themanini!" Buli quietly called the two lionesses. "The rogue is about to fight with the King!" She whispered.
Mafuta gasped and pushed the other lions out the way so she could stand next to Buli and Nesibindi and watch the fight.
The rogue was big and scruffy. He was a bit skinny, but looked strong.
He unleashed his claws and began to growl, then lept onto the King.
They fought until the King was pinned down. Realising the rogue was stronger than him and could now easily defeat him, the King pushed the rogue off him, got up and ran. He ran passed the lions and across the border. The pride knew he was not ever coming back.
"WAIT FOR ME!" The Queen screamed as she chased after her mate.
The rogue looked at the pride and sneered. He had won the battle, and was now ruler of the Kamilifu Pride.
"No...," Mafuta gasped. "This can't be happening..."
"Maybe he'll be a nice king?" Buli looked at Mafuta, Nesibindi and Themanini.
"No, he's a rogue," Mafuta said. "He is cruel, like all rogues. Like the one that chased Daddy."
"But there's nothing we can do, Mafuta," Said Nesibindi.
"I'm not giving up so easily," Mafuta replied, stepping foward.
"Mafuta, don't do anything foolish!" Buli shouted.
"Don't do anything at all!" Nesibindi exclaimed, but it was too late. Mafuta had walked up to the new king.
"What do you want?" He asked.
"You're NOT our king!" Mafuta shouted. "You're just another dumb, smelly and cruel rogue."
"What is Mafuta doing?" Nesibindi asked Buli. "How can going up to the king and insulting him help?"
"I challenge you to another fight!" Mafuta announced.
"You?" The new king laughed. "You're just a weak little lioness!"
"Oh yeah?" Mafuta unleashed her claws, and was ready to fight.
"Mafuta!" Themanini cried, running towards her daughter. "What are you thinking?"
But Mafuta ignord her mother and jumped onto the new king. But he was too strong, and threw her off. He then pinned her down, and stared at her face.
Mafuta gasped, suddenly realising who the rogue was. "It's...You! The rogue that chased away Daddy!"
Themanini gasped. She ran up to the new king and pushed him off Mafuta.
"Thanks, Mum...," She said as she got up.
"Are you hurt?" Themanini asked.
"No, I don't think so," She said as she looked back at the new king. "We are leaving the Kamilifu Pride."
"What?" Themanini exclaimed.
"I can't stay here," Mafuta said as she looked down. "I don't trust that lion. Let's leave while we can."
Themanini nodded. "Right, let's go."
Mafuta looked back at Buli and Nesibindi. "Are you guys coming?"
Nesibindi looked at Buli. "Should we?"
"Yes, let's go!" Buli shouted as she and Nesibindi followed Mafuta and Themanini.
Mafuta sighed and looked down as she walked across the border. She looked at her old home one last time as they left the Kamilifu Pride forever.
