Confusion on Pure Breds

There has been a little confusion telling full bred horses. Some members create

characters that say they are full blood ______ mare, but their parents

are two different kind of breeds. So this is for the members who don't understand

and who want to know! ^.^

If a horse was pure Quarter horse, the parents would be full Quarter horse.

Now, if the dam was full TB and the Sire was full QH, then the foal would not be full blood. Usually when a horse is crossed with another breed it has a different saying, like Appendix is for a TB/QH cross.

For the reason I'm writing this article though, is because on my last article there was a little confusion. Somebody said Rain was full paint, but she's not. In the books her sire and dam were two different breeds, not even close to have a full bred paint horse.

Sire and Dam that are same breed = Full Blood Offspring

Sire with a different breed and Dam with a different breed = Crossed Offspring

on the human factor it's because many of the humans are used as RP character only not fan characters. Those humans belong to the stable rolepays/projects/contests i think so that's why they look modern. but getting into humans is off topic away from the article ^^'

Besides that I feel people mix breeds a lot because they design the character first (as many do) before they think of a breed. I think it would help out greatly if There was link posted like the link that show's horse coat colors in the rules, that takes users to a list of All official horse breeds, and none (but very real) Official Horse breeds. Actually I have a couple of links to sites that show full lists of horses and what they look like. I can post the link on my profile page if you'd like.

I agree with Luv4Rosco and Devious, and I do see a lot of humans that don't look like they were from the eighteen hounders.

I agree with Devious. I've seen a lot of horses on here that are a pure bred Quarter horse, ( Thats just an example ) but he/shes parents are both different breeds. I've also seen some sparkle horses that have a mix of quarter horse ( Again that's an example ) and a made up breed. But what really bothers me, is that half the humans on here don't really fit into the eighteen hundreds.( I hope I don't sound harsh.)

This does bring up a good point. It is very common for people to make these "purebreds" from mixed breeds. It's mostly just a lack of knowlage about horse breeding. For someone like me I was brought up around horses I would read breeders books as a kid so I have strong knowlage about breeds pure and mixed. I know most people weren't brought up on stuff like this, a lot of people just like horse but don't know a whole lot more to them then that. Most people who jump into making their horses and don't really research behind the breed or really put into thought about cross breeding. These mistakes alos happen the the physical traits. Some people mix arabians and mustangs with no significant hint that theres arabian in the horse. Simply making a light dip in the muzzle of the horse would show that theres arabian in the mix.

I understand where you're coming from Dunedain, but you also need to understand my point of view.

My tip, 'pinto is a color, not a breed, but paint is a breed' getting a reaction like 'you're such a bully stop calling me dumb!' is vastly different then my reaction to you saying, 'Your purely just making fun of them, that's why they are offended'.

So yes, I understand that people can take some things the wrong way, but your example of it wasn't exactly the 'best example'. I reacted the way I did because your assumption was accusatory in the way you explained it by telling my I'm 'purely just making fun of them'. They got mad at me for making a simple non-accusatory correction. Big difference.

In all honesty, I'm a very big fan of your mad-awesome rendering skillz and lovely character designs and I'm hoping this whole misunderstanding won't put a damper on any possible future dealings with each other (character relations, art-trades, etc...)

You both do have valid points, but anyways, thank you very much for this topic.
If I notice a mistake, I try my best to subtly correct/"educate" the user.
It's in our nature as humans that we don't like our mistakes rubbed our faces. Not accusing anyone here of doing so, of course. But that may explain why some users can become quite oppositional when their factual errors are pointed out to them in a more blatant post.

I was not calling you rude or snobbish, merely saying how that's how it may be precieved, Nor was i judging your art, you have lovely art, i was just saying you would react with fire if someone was trying to correct something about your art if you precieved it the wrong way.

Hmm, either the characters were deleted or re-done. But thank you for assuming that I was being snobbish and rude! Debate class or not, we all know what assuming does. Trying to educate people by giving them tips and just being nasty and making snide remarks about my art are two totally different things. Again, I educated them, not made fun of them. I corrected them gently and they gave me a whole schpeel about how I was being rude and calling them dumb. I still have all the original PMs between myself and the person I was trying to educate, if you don't believe me. I added my eye-rolling smiley in order to show my disdain that no matter how much you try to correct certain people, they freak out when you tell them they made a mistake. And yes, it does get quite irritating after a while. You didn't have to deal with them; I did. So no more assuming about me and how 'rude' I am, okay? You shouldn't judge someone without first knowing the whole story. There's nothing wrong with doing some research about horses if you're going to belong to an equine-fandom. Excuse me for trying to teach kids about horses on a horse-related site.

This is a good article.
However MW I myself admittedly didn't know about heights after the . and had to ask Eska for help on that now i know. Most of us just figured it was like any other decimal system. It's understandable, that not everyone is going to do an full 360 research on horses, just to make a fan made cartoon horse character that they may loose interest in one day. "something" may be, they know what they eat, they know how they sleep, how herds work, what types of shows horses do, their body language, Many of the members here know that much so forgive them kindly if they lack in one or two areas. As for people mistaking colors for breeds, i've not seen this a lot on here and i've been browsing through the characters.

as for them thinking they are being bullied, those are usually the much younger users, (keep in mind some people are not truthful about age, we don't really know how old anyone on here is) which mean it's not what you say but how you say it. things that are meant to be helpful can quickly be taken the wrong way, or found a bit snobbish. in example your BOLD letters and rolling eye smiley might offend a few people, it's true in an office BOLD big letters mean "urgent" however in the internet world it's yelling and often used as a way to offend. and rolling eyes is never a good thing. Gentle correction "as Loren did with this article" works better than hints of Sarcasm and Self added ranking

trust me it goes quick far with sites like these. I mean after all how would you react to it if it was something about your art work and some one was using LARGE letters and Offensive smiles.

Your purely just making fun of them, that's why they are offended.

( just got out of debate class so ,haha, i read into everything a lot and i apologize for that.)

I dunno, I feel if you're going to enter an equine-based fandom, you should know SOMETHING about the animals you're making characters of. I find it a little odd (and a tiny bit irritating) to see these little kids, and even a few older teenagers, who know absolutely nothing about horses making characters who are 'purebred' Arabian/chestnut crosses that are 16.9 hh. I dunno what irks me more; the false heights or the fact that some of them think colors are actually breeds (Paints, Appaloosas and Palominos are 'color breeds', but bays, chestnuts, sorrels and pinto-marked are COLORS, not breeds). And when you try to correct them, they go all berserk on you because they think you're 'bullying' them

For pity's sake, people, DO SOME RESEARCH!
