Why the ads!

If you aren't using an ad blocker, you've surely noticed it by now : I am putting back ads on the site.
Wait! There's a good reason for this.

To put it simply, I am soon going to leave my current job, and I will be creating my own micro-company. (more on that later)
This means that I will have more time to dedicate to the site, so I'll be able to do much more than currently!
For example, I could add support for more languages, create a new and improved interface, correct all the remaining bugs etc... All the things I wanted to do but never could, because of time constraints.

The counterpart of this : I'll have to make a living. So I have to monetize the share of my time spent working on the site.
Currently I'm doing some testing on what can work and what cannot. I'll need to find a happy medium between too intrusive or inappropriate ads, and ads too hidden that don't generate anything.

I can't say I'm happy with the current (only) affiliate that has accepted the site so far (sorry for the inconvenience), but I'll keep on trying to find the best solution for the site.

Update: One of those ads just almost installed something on my computer, but I managed to sort it before damage was done. To all who read; close the tabs AS SOON as they pop up. Steet, something's really wrong here.

There must be something wrong. My computer antivirus registers them as Trojans (for anyone who doesn't know, a virus that disguises itself as a download), and they mostly seem to be fake Flash players. It's best to sort that out before someone falls for it or falls victim to it, because I've seen those kind of virus ads destroy computers.

I have a point, we have my sources of different types o here but also some that are very rarely used or used at all. Would it not save time effort etc. To cut back on some of these sites. And maybe create new ones. Ones with huge fandoms. Like Mario and sonic. Percy Jackson. Harry potter . Just an idea

Honestly, these ads would help you with it, but they're getting annoying me each time when I open the new tab, just like others said... Wait a minute! I've gotta the idea for the forum topic! Stay tuned 'till I open that topic!

I don't care much about the ads, I am using an adblocker because ads usually slow down my computer really bad but bug fixes and an improved interface sounds good. I am not sure if offering the sites in more languages would work out as I don#t see them become as active as the ones we got now.

Wow, that's more than I could probably get from putting ads here. I don't expect to earn that much, even though there are quite a lot visitors now. (3500 visitors each day)

I have a YouTube channel. (With over 7500 subscribers) When you set up your channel to run ads in front of your videos, you get money. It's only about 1/10th of a penny per view, but when you get several thousand views a day, it racks up fast. I won't say exactly how much I earn each month, but it's the equivalent of working about a half a time job. And all the money comes from ad revenue.

Skul => What do you mean? You have a Youtube channel, or you have a site where you advertise Youtube videos on? How does that work?

I make my living off of YouTube ads, so I understand completely. And I'm personally perfectly okay with it.

I noticed the ads, and it was kind of getting on my nerves because I thought it was something to do with the browser. Glad to know it isn't, anyway. The new tab ads are still appearing for me, I can live with it though xDD

I was just annoyed with the redirecting ads, my ad blocker was working just fine, but now that I know why the ads are showing up, I feel more better about the situation.

To be honest, I'd like to add just clickable banners, but the current affiliate does not generate anything with them; I'll test this when another affiliate accepts the site.

The current ad company I use, seems to only generate anything when using pop under links. Which are very annoying. (it keeps generating new tabs) So I've removed every other ad, and added something so that it won't generate new ad tabs constantly.
We'll see how it goes, but I believe other ad companies should be better.
