I read that Baloo and Rebecca from Talespin were mirrored after Sam and Rebecca from Cheers. When Baloo was wrote into the show, how did you keep his personality from Jungle Book and give him the Cheers angle?

Well, it wasn't that hard. Sam Malone (a "player" type) never committed to anything or anyone. Baloo is the same way. He's drawn to his new "boss" - but annoyed by her at the same time. Both men dislike being told what to do.
