The obvious thing about All Dogs go to Heaven was that it was created in 1989, although it was set in 1939, (a bit of a change came in the sequel and the TV Series as they seemed to be based in a later time period) the first film was made in Ireland in Sulivan Bluth Studios, although the sequels were made in America. The film was a huge hit when it came to VHS and an even bigger hit in the cinema. The apprent reason for this was the unexpected story line. Normally in many childrens cartoons the basic blue-print is; good character meets bad charcter, they fight, good charcter wins. In All Dogs go to Heaven, the bad character, (namley Carface) actually almost gets away with the murder of Charlie B. Barkin, (the good character) and both Charlie and Carface die at the end to the film.

In the sequel, (All Dogs go to Heaven 2) MBM Studios were criticized for the 'shoddy low production values' (Wikipedia) as they had numourous mistakes, such as Charlie wearing the collar before he gets it, and David's mother saying at the end of the film when he returns, "Just because I'm having this baby doesn't mean I love you.".

Another was the fact that Itchy reapeared in Heaven after apparently choking on a chicken bone, as Ann-Marie would be upset about this.

As time went on and Childrens TV Shows were tonned down from the "reckless violence" they had before, All Dogs go to Heaven also changed making the charcters more American and the TV Show even more so, a.k.a having a good character being related to the bad character, (Annabelle and Belladona), and both main characters having lovers, (Charlie and Sasha---Itchy and Bess), and the antagonist from the main film becoming the second antagonist (Belladona and Carface).
