Here on Animation Source and My Little Pony Source, we are pleased to announce that the first full-length trailer of My Little Pony: The Movie has finally been released online! This trailer will also be attached to screenings of Despicable Me 3.

While I haven’t been caught up on the series, I will say the effort put in is pretty commendable. This is especially evident with the upgraded animation. Instead of the usual Flash animation in the show, they’re using Toon Boom Harmony (the same animation software used for The Princess and the Frog), and it’s defiantly a step up from the show. It’s so refreshing to see 2D animation back once again on the CGI-dominated big screen!

The story from what’s shown in the trailer seems to have bigger stakes than a typical episode, and seems fitting for a big screen adventure. My only hope is that distributor Lionsgate doesn’t screw up the release like they always have with animation (Happily N’Ever After, Alpha and Omega, Norm of the North, etc.). but at least with young girls and the older bronies/pegasisters, there’s already an audience for this to be a hit.

For those excited (or “nervouscited”) for the Mane Six’s jump to the big screen, My Little Pony: The Movie will release in cinemas on October 7 for the US and Canada, October 20 for the UK, and November 2 for Australia and New Zealand (via Madman Entertainment)!
