Presenting the 80th Anniversary of the 1925 Serum Run, exhibited by the Cleveland Museum of Natural History!

Balto has made it in to the pages of history after the heroic diphtheria epidemic rescue. The Cleveland Museum dedicates an entire exhibit to him  from January 29th to May 8th. The exhibit featured Balto’s famous displayed body, plus press clippings, historic film, and even a map of the Iditarod Dog Race which still takes place every winter today!

There were many things to do and see at the exhibit, and there was even a postcard competition for children aged 4-12. But perhaps the most exciting feature to Balto’s memory was the Balto Readers Dinner Theater, which featured a live presentation of a theatrical presentation of the serum run to Nome after a dinner.

As if all this wasn’t enough, there was also the special play performance of “Balto: The Dog That Saved Nome, Alaska” by Robert Thomas Noll. The Cleveland museum exhibit was quite possibly the most exciting  Balto commemoration yet, and brought Balto’s story back to life with the wonderful reenactments, feasts, contributions, competitions and most of all the spirit of Balto.
