History: Gemini was born in a small abandoned shed right outside the town of Barrow. Both of her parents were street dogs who had made the little shed their home. Gem's was part of a small litter of three with Gemini being the only girl. As the pups grew older, Gem was always protected by her parents and her brother. But that didn't stop Gem from figuring out the street dog life for herself. She became very clever and swift, keeping out of human sight.

Looking for more excitement in different towns and trying to get away from her protective family, Gem travled from town to town along the coast of Alaska. In her first new town, Gem didn't fit in well. Without the confidence of her family standing beside her, Gem was much more submissive to the other street dogs. When a group of them decided to gang up on the new girl, Gem ran instead of standing her ground like she used to.

After her horrible experiences in that town, Gem was not too optimistic about the next town she moved to. Much of the same happened there too. But when a few dogs cornered her, instead of running, Gem stood up to them and there was even a small fight of which Gem basically won.

A few days after the scrable in the alley, Gem was accepted by the other street dogs. Gem stayed for a short time before moving on. Similar events continued until she reached Nome.

In Nome, Gem had some trouble with a group of house dogs that liked to beat up on street dogs like herself. The leader of the gang, Shadow, was the worse of them. Gemini was luckily able to escape most situations, but one day she couldn't get away from him fast enough.

She was able to make it to the vet's office after a brutal beating, and the man there was able to stitch her up and keep her safe inside the building until she was perfectly healed up. Unfortunately, Gem had to stay for two whole months until her unwanted litter was born. All of them were taken to separate foster homes and Gem never saw them again. A few days after the pups left, the vet spayed Gem so she would never have pups again.

The vet realized that Gemini had not home to go back to and so he called up the local dog catcher to take her to the human society which he thought would be a better home than the streets. Gem was angry that he was sending her to the one place she had been trying to avoid, and put up quite a stuggle with the group that came to take her to the pound. They did eventaully get her into the truck and then into the cement holding area in the shelter. But Gem was only there for a week before the vet's wife, Sarah, came and adopted her.

Gem become a permanent fixture in the vet office and rarely went out on the streets alone anymore. She grew to love the housedog life and adored her owners, even Dr. Ken Greene who had tried to send her to the shelter.

A few months later, there was a terrible sledding accidents with one of the teams and three sled dogs came into the office. The first one to arrice was Luke, the son of Balto, who had terrible injuries from a bear attack. He told Gemini the whole story. When two more dogs came after him, Gem spent her time talking to the three sled dogs. One of them died soon after he came to the office, but the other two recovered with no problems. The female went off to join another sled team, but Luke had a permanent limp that prevented him from ever running a race again.

Luckily, Ken and Sarah adopted Luke as well, and Gem became Luke's mentor in the like of a house dog. He was not too happy with the indoor life at first, but he soon warmed up to it.

Luke wanted to have a big family since he could not longer race, and Gem had to confess to him that she could not bear pups anymore. Instead, they adopted pups of the street and raised them as their own.

Personality: Gemini is soft spoken, but also very stubborn. She is very clever and quick-witted from her days on the street. She is very sweet and kind, but she has a stern, sarcastic side to her as well. She is a natural mother even though she never really knew her only litter. She cares deeply for the pups and adopts and checks on each of them at least once a month to make sure they are doing okay.
