Relation to Balto: His father, Aniu's mate and occasionally lived in Nome
Personality: Jacoby is, overall, a nice guy. He knows how to make friends and keep them, and he is also a good female attracter, thanks to his strong build. But after he lost Aniu, he never showed an interest in relationships ever again. During the time he was separated from his son, he was depressed a lot and felt guilt. Not much changed when he and Balto had an arguement the first time they'd met in years. He wanted to crawl over and die, but when Balto apologised to him and let him explain why he left, he felt a whole lot happier. He has a fear of flying and heights.
Physical Traits / Appearance: He is a very fast runner and one of the best sled dogs in the state. He knows who and how to fight. For physical strength, Jacoby is well experienced and is well-maintained and lives on a balanced diet as an official sled dog. His fur is dark grey / green on his back, tail and nose bar. He has darker on his ears and the same leg markings as his son Balto.
Biography: Born in a cruel breeding house in California, he was sold to an Alaskan dog collector virtually when he was hours old. He has no knowledge of his family or relatives. He was raised from birth to be a sled dog and to earn a good profit for his owner, who lived in poverty at the time. He was good at his job, but he expected more of life and wanted to see more. He did, however, make a few friends. Even though his owner was very poor, Jacoby grew up fast and was fed well.
He first met Aniu during a walk with his friends in the woods. At first startled, she ran off, and he followed her. Jacoby tried to tell her he didn't want to hurt her. Aniu was soon attacked by a bear on the way home, but Jacoby saved her, cutting his paw and forehead in the process (this same bear would be the one that attacked Balto and his friends three years later). Aniu, grateful for her life, healed him, and they became friends. He came to see her pack. But Aniu's family wanted her to marry Buck, a muscular male, and destined to carry on the pack with their pups. Aniu actually hated Buck, he was a bully and he didn't let her do anything she wanted. Instead, she showed more of an interest to Jacoby.
Her parents, especially her father Zeke, hated him with a passion. She wanted his daughter to have wolf pups with Buck. He confronted Jacoby and told them to stay apart, but it didn't work. They started seeing each other in secret and got to know, and like, each other. Soon enough, they became more than friends.
When Zeke found out she was pregnant, he tried to kill Jacoby, but she intervened. Aniu and Jacoby were both banished from their homes. They lived wild for the majority of the pregnancy. Jacoby built a shelter especially for his new family. After nine weeks, she gave birth to four beautiful pups, named Balto, Gavin, Nikkita and Luna. But Gavin was born too weak, and died shortly after birth, making Balto the only male.
The happy family lived wild for a few months. The parents decided that one day they would have to either move into a wolf pack or into a town with humans. One day, Jacoby went off hunting. When he came back, he found two of his pups shot and killed by a hunter, and Aniu bleeding badly. Balto was traumatised but uninjured. Aniu died of her injuries, after saying they were attacked by hunters, which fled at the sight of Jacoby.
A heartbroken father took his only surviving child towards Nome. They found a snow goose named Boris there, who led them to a small boat that they could live on. They and Boris and polar bears Muk and Luk became good friends. Jacoby often sneaked into town and stole food, but if it was too risky he would go hunting. One time in town, he was found by his old owners, and was captured. Before he could get back to tell his son, he was put in a cage, and found himself on a boat to Juneau, a city hundreds of miles away. He was forced back into sledding with another overworking owner.
After several years, his owner became bankrupt, and he was forced to sell Jacoby and a few other dogs. But, when he was being sold, he held a mass escape of dogs and ran away. He came to Anchorage after a day or two of trekking, and boarded a ship at the harbour. It was a small tramp steamer, on it's way to Nome. He boarded without hesitation, hoping to find his long-lost son there. When he arrived in Nome, he met his grandson Indiana and daughter-in-law Jenna, who helped him confront his fears and talk to his son.
But nothing really went to plan. Balto accused Jacoby of abandoning him and Boris, and their first meeting turned into an arguement. Jacoby was heartbroken, and ran out of Balto's home in tears. That night, he tried to commit suicide by poisoning himself, but Indiana and Jenna saved him. He told them he had nothing left to live for without his son. Jenna was angry with Balto, and made him go and apologise. But when they went to talk to him, he wasn't there. He was taking Indiana for a walk in the woods. They were getting to know each other and became very close. During the walk however, Indiana was shot by a hunter in the chest. When Jacoby got to him, he couldn't move and was barely breathing. Jacoby scared off the hunter. Calling for help, he lifted his grandson onto his back and carried him back to Nome. Balto and Jenna heard the cry and came to help. Indiana was rushed to hospital, and recovered quickly. Balto apologised to Jacoby and thanked him for saving him.
Balto let him rejoin the family. He became very well respected by the townsfolk. Jacoby retook sledding as a job in Nome, and as a child's teacher on how to do tricks and be a good pet. In 1932, in his weakness and frail age, while on a trip to White Mountain, he fell into a frozen lake. He was saved and pulled out, but died of pneumonia shortly after. He was buried in Nome.
