Relation to Balto: Lives in Nome, is Balto and Jenna's adoptive son, Dusty's crush before Kodi and they nearly became mates

Personality: Maxwell is any girl's dream boyfriend. He is brave, loyal and chivalric. He would do anything for his family and friends, because he knows they would for him. As a pup he was very naive, and was shy and not very good at meeting new people. However with his new friends, the future mail team, he grew more confident around new friends. He would gladly die for anyone he loves, as when he jumped in front of a fight to the death to save Dusty. He is, as an adult, still a little iffy around some humans, but whenever he's with his friends he can confront his fears.

Physical Traits / Appearance: He is a healthy well-fed male. He is a good hunter and is ideally suited to a sledding life. Mr Simpson chose him because he possesses the features and strength of both a dog and a wolf. He has a light grey underbelly and a black back, legs, nose bar and tail.

Maxwell was born in the wild outside Nome, a few months before Dusty and the same week as Kodi and Aleu, as a one-off litter. He was leading a good scarless childhood until his parents, Tori and his father Kenai, were murdered by strays when he was a few weeks old. Valdez, leader of a gang of outlaws, had killed his mother and father because Kenai had allegedy left him to die in an avalanche and saved Tori instead. Max was left to wander around by himself, lost and helpless. Valdez expected him to freeze in a blizzard. He almost did, but Dusty found him half-buried in snow and near death in the morning. Balto and Jenna took him to the kennel and revived him. He got to know the team and some dogs in the town. He was attacked by Steele at one point, after which he was banished. (There is more detail on his childhood in his fanfic 'New Guy') He got a crush on Dusty, and when he asked her out, she accepted and they became boyfriend and girlfriend. Meanwhile, Valdez, and his gang of Akiak, Xavier, Titan, Diemos and Phobia, still in their criminal hobbies, became aware of Maxwell's survival.

He told Phobia, Diemos and Xavier to sneak into the town and give them both a good 'going over'. That night, she was on her way through the streets when they attacked her, but he heard the screaming and helped her. He killed Phobia and they ran off just as he passed out of blood loss. Dusty took him back to the kennel and healed him, just as Valdez ordered another attack.

Diemos and Xavier were led into the town with a knife and told to kill them both. The two decided to attack in the evening when they would be tired from sledding all day. Kodi was threatened if he didn't tell his whereabouts, but Max jumped in and saved him. The rest of the team quickly got involved. Diemos was defeated and Xavier was asked at knife-point why they were attacking him and Dusty. Xavier said that Valdez had killed his parents and now made him and Dusty priority targets. In the knowledge that he was wanted dead, he refused to be seen with Dusty in case she got hurt. Valdez was, again, informed of the death of a team member. Bloodlust and mad, Valdez said he would go into the town and kill him personally in a final showdown.

Valdez came into the town in the evening the next day with his remaining team. They caught Maxwell having a chat with Kodi and Dusty and attacked them. Kodi heard screaming from the town, and went to help. Maxwell's body grew increasingly bruised, but eventually he persuaded Xavier, Akiak and Titan to break up the fight and run off, saying that Valdez had never done anything for them. Valdez ran into the woods after them, but gave up shortly after.

Believing the fight was over, Max proposed to be Dusty's mate, and she approved behind tears of happiness. However, no-one noticed the dark figure jump out of the bushes. Valdez lunged for Dusty with his teeth and claws drawn. Maxwell dived in the way and saved her, just as Valdez jumped on him and attacked him again. He collapsed onto the floor and died of his injuries a few minutes later. Kodi attacked Valdez out of nowhere, and was nearly defeated had Balto not saved him. Dusty mourned him for a few days before getting over it with the help of Kodi and the other dogs in the city. After his death, he became Dusty's spirit guide with the help of Aniu. Dusty and Kodi soon fell for each other and became mates.

Note: I was going to make a fanfic about him becoming a spirit guide, but I cancelled it because many members on the site I talked about it to didn't approve of the overall plot. Sorry :/
