He's a Sparkle Dog because I've never seen a Saint Bernard or Mop Dog with these kind of markings before.

This is a character I made back in early 2011. He never had a name or  histrory untill now. To tell you, I'm quite happy with his history and name. :)

Name: Spudnik

Nick Names: Spud, but don't call him this. He doesn't like it.

Gender: Male

Breed: Saint Bernard and Komondor(Mop Dog) Mix

Nationality: Swiss. He's from Switzerland.

Languages Known: German and English.

Age: 8. But is usually drawn when he's around 2 or 3. That's why it says "2 years of age" on his ref.

Death: Sometime in 1928, he was 8 when he died.

Mate: none

Eyes: Grey(L) Light Blue(R)

Height: 30 in. and withers

Weight: 190-200lb.

Other: After the age of 2 he got a collar with a small barrel of brandy on it. He drouls A LOT. Has a stub tail because the end of it was frost bit and fell off when he was younger. (That can happen! It happened to a cat I had) His owner lets Spudnik's fur grow out during the winters so he'll stay warmer.

Fear: Being eaten by a bear

Bad Habits: Barking at things. Otherwise he's a very obediant and good dog.

Likes: Being petted, food, being warm, helping people. Classical music, making people happy. The northern lights, racing the other sled dogs even thought he loses almost every time. Cats, playing fetch or other games with people or animals. Talking and Gossiping. Treats

Dislikes: Muk and Luk (he doesn't like bears) being cold and wet, be talked badly about, yelling, fighting with the others, snow storms, mean people, messing things up. Disapionting people. Having his winter coat trimed.  

Personality: Very layed back and mellow. He loves everybody and hates nobody, he makes most of his friends very easily. Though he's big, that doesn't mean he's brave and fearless, 'cause he's not, not by a long shot. Really the only time he'll act fearless is when his friends are in trouble. He's very clumsy and ditzzy(like myself), he forgets things easily so you have to constently remind him of things he needs to do. He's always very lovey and cuddlely. There's nothing that he loves more then a hug or belly rub. He enjoys company from the other animals and people.

History: Spudnik came into this world in 1920 in his native home land of Switzerland. He was a Saint Bernard and Komnodor cross breed. With that, he was a very strong built pup and for sure he was going to be a big dog. While Spudnik was still very young, his owners who were an older couple, wanted to move to America to chase the American dream and to buy some land. They were in search of a new adventure, despite their age. The family found some land in Alaska that they wanted and they bought a little cabin like house in Nome, Alaska. It was small, but the old couple were satisfied with it. The couple had traveled a long way to get to their new home. By ship, train, and dogsled.

As Spudnik grew older, he grew bigger and soon out grew the small 4 room house of his owners. He had to start sleeping outside. He became to much for his owners handle. They put a clip in the news paper that read "1 year old pup needs good home" This article in the news paper caught the eye of the doctor. He wanted some company around his office. The next day the doctor went to the house of the elderly couple to pick up the dog. The old couple were delighted to know that Spudnik would go to a new home.

The doctor took Spudnik back to his home. At first Spudnik was very shy and hid whenever the doctor would get close to him. After a week or so of living with the doctor Spudnik grew more fond of him and soon they were close friends. Spudnik really liked the doctor, and the doctor was even kind enough to bring him out to his owners house for visits. The older couple were very grateful for the visits the doctor would make with Spudnik.

Spudnik would sit and sleep by the fire in the doctor’s office. Spudnik would also go and keep the patients in the quarantine room company because no one else would. Spud became a very familiar and semi-famouse dog around Nome. Spudnik would even go out to the boiler room to sit and gossip with the other dogs that hung around there. One of his favorite canines to talk with was Doc. It was comforting to Spudnik to know that he wasn't the only dog in town that was not a dog bred for speed like all the famous huskies, malamute, and the other sled dogs. He was even teased by some of the other dogs for being "Big" and that he wasn't able to run as fast as them. But because he met Doc. he didn't feel as bad whenever he got teased by Steele or one of the others. He still felt left out though, the whole town would hum with excitement whenever a dog team would go out. Spudnik would never be treated the same way the others were, but that never dampened his outlook on things. He still stayed cheery as ever.

When Spudnik turned 2, the doctor decided to enroll Spud in a search and rescue program. He thought that Spudnik would be the perfect dog for that. He was a fast learner and soon picked up all the new things they were teaching him. He became a very valued member of the search and rescue team. With in the few years that Spud had been  a part of the search team, he had rescued many people from avalanches, to falling through fissures and cracks in the ice and rock.

But one day a little boy had ventured out onto a lake when the ice was still very thin. So word of this went through town and they sent out Spudnik. Spudnik had to hurry, there was also news of a blizzard rolling in that night. By the time Spudnik had reached the lake, snow had begun to fall, and Twilight was beginning to set. The boys parents were standing on the edge lake, and the boy was almost out to the middle of the lake.

Spudnik started to venture out onto the thin ice making sure to watch and check his footing carefully. The ice crack around his huge paws as he walked. It seem the world held it's breath as he walked slowly out onto the ice. Finally, after endless minutes, Spudnik got to the boy, he grab the hood of the little boys jacket and began to drag him across the ice. Slowly Spudnik made his way back to the frozen bank to where the boy's  parents stood. The closer Spudnik went to the bank, the more unstable the ice grew. He felt the ice under his paws give way. At the last moment Spud pushed the boy with all his might, and then he fell through the ice and was swept away by the strong current. The boy was push out far enough to safer ground and was able to make it back to the shore. Sadly though, Spudnik wouldn't returen home.

The town of Nome heard this. Great sorrow struck the people, especially the old couple and the doctor. Even the dogs felt sad. The family of the who Spudnik save made small memorial for Spud on the edge of the lake. Everybody who knew Spudnik payed their visits and even the dogs came too. Spudnik had save many during his time in Nome, and I doubt he would ever be forgotten.

Oh, by the way, thoses of you who are wondering. No, he is NOT named after the Russian satellite "Sputnik." He's named after the potato truck brand, "Spudnik" . . . . I like potatoes, don't judge me, they're my favorite food. I mean c'mon! You can use a potato for so many different things! If you were trapped in the desert with nothing but a 50 pound bag of potatoes, you could easily survive! (Ok done with weird rant about potatoes)

He was based off of my aunts dog Angus. Who is a Boreder Collie, Saint Bernard mix. I used Angus' build/fur for a referance. His Personality/like/dislike ect. were based upon myself.
