Balto Source news
Balto Fandub

Written by Moss :

Have you ever wondered what Balto would sound like if it had your voice as one of the characters? Now’s your chance! Animation Source member Fi verTheProphet (known as ClaireDeLuna09 on YouTube) is working on a project to re-dub the entire Balto movie, line for line, with voices from the fans! (This is called a fandub.) The first completed scene can be watched in the video below.

Currently, a LOT of voices are needed; pretty much, Jenna and Balto are the only ones that are taken. If you’re interested in voicing one of the other characters, contact Claire on either here through PM, or on YouTube. All you need is a mic and you’re all set!

If you’re not interested in joining, but want to keep updated on the fandub’s progress, subscribe to Claire on YouTube; scenes will be posted as they are completed. Maybe someday, the whole movie will be complete and we can link you to THAT as well!

Ahh, I remember when I wanted to do the same thing with Balto and All Dogs go to Heaven. It never worked out for me unfortunately :( I hope this one will be completed, I'm definitely in for voicing some of the characters (:

I really wish I was better for fan-dubs.
I can do a lot of bazaar accents, but that's about it, my speaking voice is less then feminine. But I can't wait to see how these come out, and next time I'm on my YT account I'll make sure to sub to ClaireDeLuna09.

It may be possible to release the fandubbed audio separately. It would then be up to the viewer to combine it with the video from the movie.

It would give the viewer options:
1. (simple) Mute the TV and play the fandub aloud, attempting to synchronize video and audio.
2. (advanced) Mux the fandub audio with video recorded or ripped from some other source, and create a self contained media file.

It may also reduce the possibility of anyone claiming copyright infringement.

well, maybe a full movie is out of the question, then, but so far small scenes seem to be staying up on YouTube. In fact, there are some that have been up for years and haven't been taken down yet. Maybe it'll be that way with this.

But yes, copyright infringement is a rather annoying business when it comes to fandom. Understandable, yes, but still annoying. Oh well.

O' Cap'n My Cap'n!
I happen to agree with Hecate and Balto legend 1925. Nothing against FivertheProphet, who generally does good videos (from what I have seen), but redubbing dialogue, word-for-word, over existing scenes seems to me to qualify as a violation of intellectual property rights on a more fundamental level than, say, a music video using clips from a movie (which Universal's legal and licensing departments don't seem to mind).

Dragon : this is a copyright infraction, even if you don't make money with it ;) I know about copyright things ( it's more for Europa, but for USA it's the same thing about this thing ). You can't use characters, images, sountrack etc ... from a movie to make something EXCEPT if you have the righting autorisation by the owner of this ( in this case, Universal ). Then, I think you have understand it, Fanart, images, character and EVERY part of this site is illegal. Even with " original character/images/sountrack etc ... universal " it's still illegal.

But, most of the time, there is no problem with it since this is not about making money with this ( mean that they will not attack you for making a fandom ). But it's still good to know about copyright =3

EDIT : After reading a little bit more about it, there is a big difference between copyright ( mostly for USA and UK ) and autor right ( not sure about how it's in english, but it's for Europa ). Copyright looks to be cooler about fandom. But I don't know more then, I'll not say anything about it x)

Anyway, good fandub, this is really well done and the voices feat pretty well =3

Are dubs considered copyright infringement? It's not like we're making money with it.

I'm Sorry but its the truth. It would at most have about a month before some snitch rats it out to universal studios.
