Whats a blacklist?

Now the site has gone to these? Oh my gosh, I always seem to miss the drama, don't I? [lucky me...?]

Well, it's a darn shame that such a terrible thing is on such a good [some many say 'decent'] fansite, especially when a main message in the source of our fandom is about respecting others by treating them the way you'd like to be treated, even if you feel that they aren't the best type of person [or role model]. I agree that something like this is just a way to get attention, but it's the wrong type of attention one wants. It's down-right stupid [especially when a simple 'block' does the trick... but not everyone can comprehend that]. If anything, these lists just show the maturity level of the ones that post these blacklists [at some times, the maturity levels of some affected are also shown]. I may not like or agree with some people ad their views on things, but heck, I'll still treat them with respect. It's what I would want, whether you dislike me or not.

I'm glad that something is being done about these. It's setting a bad example of people in the fandom, and I hope that this makes new members see the Balto fandom in a new, more positive light. I am looking forward to an improvement in the future and this is just one small step towards doing so.

I think it's worth reiterating that, while it may seem sensible to suggest "ignore" as a way for these drama seekers to assuage their tender egos, the suggestion once again runs counter to the intent of posting black lists to begin with. They are not trying to "ignore" the person (or people) they have listed. The whole purpose OF a black list is for it to be SEEN -- not only by their friends and other members, but specifically by the person or people they have actually listed. Those people presumably cannot see such things if they are being "ignored".

It's about confrontation and flame baiting, NOT trying to ignore or avoid someone. Which is exactly why it shouldn't be dealt with using "kid gloves". I don't know...I should think that would be a no-brainer...

Just to add quick. If anyone sees any of these blacklists, for maybe the next week or so, don't be too harsh if you comment on the page. Just ask nicely and/or just report (to avoid drama). The member may not have been on and seen this yet, or we haven't found it yet. But hopefully we'll be able to get it back under control relatively quickly and keep it so.

As Skul mentioned, the ignore feature is best used for such things, not a public, posted list.

Renagade: A blacklist is a public list people post on profiles/galleries stating who they don't "like" or whatnot. It's flamebait and pointless.

Kash, it's about ANY black lists. Regardless of the motivation for posting them. Wrong is wrong is wrong. And putting up a list of names as "blacklisted" is stupid no matter what the reason.

Finally someone says something about these silly blacklists posted about Traced Bases. It's silly as hey to put a blacklist on people for Traced Bases because you have no say in the matter. All you did was trace a screenshot then demand credit when there was hardly any work done on them.

Nice to see that there is some progress in rules about respecting other members.
There is seriously no need to bring up personal conflicts in public by creating those "black lists".

"Blocking" and "ignoring" are not the goals for these people. Nor are black lists anything much beyond a desire for those lists TO be seen by as many people as possible. It's blatant flame baiting, and the creators of black lists specifically want those lists TO be seen. It creates, supports and spreads the drama. And it's a cheap and petty way at getting back at someone who might have criticized one of their works or took them to task for making a boneheaded comment or post at one point or another. Nothing more.

Which is why this enforcement will be (and should always have been) a good idea.
