Is nobody going to mention the fact that they were starved and neglected as "oddities". Sick.

Of the start, Corndog...not the finish. It's better, technically, to celebrate the finish of the run on February 2nd.

the true story has always touched my heart, and I will love Balto until I get out of this obsession, even after that though, I'll still like him.

Lone Wolf-25, don't be ridiculous. A dog doesn't "want" in those terms, or think that way. A dog, particularly a sled dog, enjoys the experience of pulling on a team and running with the other dogs. There is no rationality to it. Indeed, neither Balto nor Togo were the only two dogs who ran that route. No dog did less than they did. Togo certainly pulled the greatest distance - WITH A TEAM OF NINETEEN OTHER DOGS BEHIND HIM - and many dogs pulled farther than Balto's team. But all the dogs (and mushers) deserve credit.

But people keep forgetting about the heroes who saved the lives billion of people. Not only dogs, but other people too.:(

150 hero's, and amount them 2 incredible sled dog leaders, Togo, lead his team through the longest stretch of the relay, and Balto who led his team through a double shift. not because he wanted the glory, but because he obeyed his musher and got the medicine to nome an hour or so earlier than pass it off to other team

"Property" would be a ridiculously-inaccurate term for what Alaska was before statehood. In fact, it started as a military department, then a district (under, at various times, the U.S. Army and even Navy, and then the U.S. Treasury Department). By the early 20th century, it was established as a recognized territory of the U.S. Statehood, of course, would not come until 1959.

"Property"... :icon297:

Anchorage has never been the capital of Alaska. Juneau is the capital (Southeast, closer to Washington state than it is to Nome). Also, Alaska wasn't a state at this time. It was just US property.

"...because with him Nome whould of lost all hope." I presume you mean "because withOUT him". Beside the point anyway. Without ALL the dogs and also the humans who participated in the real event, Nome WOULD have lost all hope.

...Balto never had a mate, and he was neutered at six months of age.

And let's remember Balto was a dog, not a human. Balto would have no opinion on this. Nor any other dog.

I suggest that you do some reading, because there is more than just Balto involved in the serum run.

That is sad the he died i wonder how his mate must of had felt when she heard the news, but Balto will always live in our heart no matter what, because with him Nome whould of lost all hope. Balto will be known in our hearts and in our dreams if we just believe in what he did. The reason i post this is i wish i was him just for one whole week, and i wish that i could see his spirit and he could tell me how it felt just to save Nome, Alaska from that horrible sickness.

NO, "L". Togo was ONE of the real heroes. There were nearly 150 real canine heroes, thank you. :icon298:

Well, what the movie doesn't tell you is that the real hero was Togo, traveling a total of 260 miles. Did I mention he was 12years old at the time;) Balto who got all the credit only traveled a total of 53 milesx but since he was the the dog to enter Nome he received all the credit. Funny isn't it.....

This dog is very special and shows how much a true dog cares for others even humans who he probably doesn't understand probably only by instinct. He saved those kids through his mushers help and did whatever he could do. I also love the movie of Balto that added a little perspective to Balto even though most of the things in the movie didnt happen...;)

I loved this movie as a little girl, even though it is loosely based on a true story. Loved it so much when my husband and I got a husky as our first dog together, I named him Balto!
